Performance and detection exclusions are applied by all scanners, including real-time protection and on-demand scanner.
Use performance exclusions to resolve performance issues, detection exclusions to exclude a specific detection (e.g. a potentially unsafe application that you use on purpose) or process exclusions to resolve performance or detection issues caused by a particular safe process (e.g. backup). Extension exclusions are not usually used since it could be dangerous to widely exclude files that can contain malware. We recommend confining exclusions to specific files.
