rotaru gave kudos to Marcos in I suggested this before...
The engine version used to be shown in the past, however, with the introduction of LiveGrid and pico updates the engine updates became less important which is why the product version is displayed in the tool tip in current versions. Needless to say that decisions about changes in gui are made after deep analysis in cooperation of several departments and it's not just a decision of a concrete person.

    ... but was never implemented.

When I hover my mouse over the ESET icon on taskbar I get "ESET NOD32 16.1.14.0" . This is useless info, whoever installed ESET on their computer knows already that icon is for ESET ; additionally the version is not something we can double-check easily so again , without value .
Wouldn't be more valuable something like "Last updated 53min ago"   ???

Also of note is I have Firefox set to use HTTPS connection by default.
Eset does not block access to https://depositfiles.com/.

    This statement needs further clarification;
Browsers have options to block pop-ups.
Pop-up ads although a nuisance are not necessarily malicious.
Browsers have extension/add-ons that will block ads.
Whether JavaScript code being processed by a browser is obfuscated per se is immaterial. It is only material if the JavaScript code after being de-obfuscated is determined to contain malicious code. Therefore in this instance, did the JavaScript code contain malware or perform activities that are suspicious enough to warrant blocking of the URL?

I forgot that MRG Effitas which tests Eset's business products; i.e. Eset Endpoint Security, performs simulated ransomware tests for behavior capability as part of its yearly 360 test series. Eset failed to get ransomware certified in the following tests:

    https://www.mrg-effitas.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/MRG_Effitas_360_Q3_2022-final.pdf
Bottom line here is one would be well advised to deploy Eset's recommended HIPS and firewall rules against ransomware. These will protect you at least against the commonly known attack vectors used by ransomware.

ESET still performs "classic" updates; OP is right, and info like "Last update performed on ...." is more valuable than "engine version".
"Engine version" is not posted on national TV , so we are aware of.....

Eset never ceases to flabbergast me on the way they do things. I am not "going to mince any words here."
What Eset is doing in regards accessing Eset eStore account data is not two factor authorization. 2FA requires two distinct authorization methods are performed prior to any account information is displayed. Entering publicly available data, displaying partial account data, and then performing a second authorization method from the partial account data screen is not an authorization method.
Refer to how major banks perform 2FA.
    1. You access their public web site.
    2. You enter the first authorization method on that web site. This is usually a user id and password.
3, Once the first authorization method has been verified, the second verification method is initiated. This may be the sending of a numeric code to a previous setup up phone number stored in existing user account data. Once that code is received, it is entered into the existing logon screen and account data access is granted.
Likewise, when e-mail link authorization is used which BTW is insecure, it would be initiated only after user id password authorization verification was completed.

rotaru received kudos from peteyt in Where EXACTLY are exclusions storred?
A general "Exclusion" area, an easily reachable "Quarantine", a one click info about last update and a single "ThreatSenese parameters / Cleaning " location.
Why an user has to set "cleaning" in 4-5 places??? It is very unlikely that an user would want "Always remedy detection" in one section and "Always ask the end-user" in other section.

When I hover the mouse over ESET tray icon I get "ESET version....."
First, everyone knows that the icon if for ESET, no need for explanation
Second, displaying the version does not mean anything; we do not know if it is the last version or not, unless we search deep on the internet.
More useful would be a message like :

"ESET update performed at 10:25AM, 25.07.2022"

    Thanks!
I have been using ESET for 6 years (on-again-off-again) with HIPS in "Smart Mode" and never ever got an alert HIPS generated.
I do not trust too much this HIPS in ESET.

Initial post was about "In a test involving real attack scenarios, 26 protection solutions for consumer users..."
What's the point of posting "Eset Endpoint is ransomware certified..."??????

When "The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety" simulate a crash and an airbag did not deploy because was just "a simulation" , do you think this would be an acceptable answer?????
