What do you mean by accessing? Doesn't the system and ESET access it every time it's turned on? @Marcos

As people have mentioned in every other post boot sectors are scanned when something tries to access it. You scan manually scan them as far as I know but what I presume this means is when not running a manual scan boot sectors will only be scanned when something accesses it

Hello Marcos, thanks a lot for your reply. I apologize for the delay in replying back but my mother is seriously ill, is bedridden, and has multiple bed-sores. I spend most of my time attending to her. I did download the latest version of ESET Internet Security and tried to install it but received an error "installed on too many devices."

I'd like to point out that I purchased ESET Internet Security "2 devices 2 years" from Amazon on 25 Jun 2021 and installed it on two PCs (operating system Windows 7) and activated the license (ending in xxV6) on 21 July 2021. Therefore the license should be valid till 20 July 2023.

The motherboard of one of my PC crashed on March 10 2022 and I had to replace it with a new one and had to reinstall ESET Internet Security again using the provided license key. For quite some time I have been noticing that ESET displays an error message that it no longer supports Windows 7. Since I have an old hard disk drive I decided to install an additional SSD drive and installed Windows 10 on it and, reinstalled ESET on it, and typed in the serial number, only to get the error message (installed on too many devices. I believe that your system is detecting these two instances (of changing the motherboard and adding a SSD) as "installation on additional devices."

The strange part is that if I unplug the SSD (with Windows 10 installed) from the motherboard and launch my PC using the old drive (Windows 7), your product runs smoothly. If required, I can provide the screenshot of the same or even allow you to access my computer using a remote controlling software such as "Anydesk" so that you can confirm that my license is valid.

Later on, I removed all traces of ESET Internet Security from my PC (including all traces from the registry). However, one file still remains on the drive and I am unable to remove it even after trying different methods. Please advise how I can remove the file. Also, please restore my license so that I can use it to activate the new version of ESET Internet Security using my original license. Hoping to get a positive response from you. Thanks a lot in advance.

    Warm Regards,

    Parsi

Can you also confirm how many installations of eset you have.

If Eset is installed on 1 computer but on a different harddrive or partition each instal is basically classed as 1 license. This would explain the issue why it works on your other hard drive.

If after doing a full uninstall in safe mode you still have issues you can login or register to Eset Home via https://home.eset.com/ and basically remove computers from the license to free it up.

The only issue is this may not be possible if your email is not registered as you mentioned buying through Amazon rather than an Eset distributor

To my best knowledge, subscription is currently available only in the US. In the future, it will be available in all countries and the products as well as the ESET HOME portal will be better adapted to it.

If you don't need to share or otherwise manage your license(s) and do not use Anti-Theft nor Parental Control, you don't need to sign up for ESET HOME now.

Can you clarify what you mean by subscription as cannot see anything anywhere online.

Do you mean that eset will go to a monthly subscription option instead of yearly etc.

Look, you can scan it, I'm not asking

when i choose that location you real-time file protection game files etc. I'm asking if the threatsense parameters scan the selected places constantly as it scans the places

From what was mentioned above with threatsense parameters if it's enabled for something e.g. BIOS Eset will scan it when something accesses it. Not constantly.

Patch management should be available this year, at least for business customers.

@Marcos: Please consider making this available for home/home office/small business users as well. Maybe in the ESET Smart security Premium product. And allow people to upgrade from other subscriptions to that one... Thank you for considering ...

1+ from me for this for home users. I think it could be a good sell for people jumping to the premium product.

I know others and myself have often said that an AV should stick to security but I think out of date software is actually a big security issue and Eset already can alert you to Windows updates

The repair option is unavailable for security reasons. You can upgrade to a newer version or uninstall the existing one. You have version 14.2, newer versions offer config export and remove options only:

I noticed he is also getting the error if he uninstalls instead of repairs but unsure if this is eset related as it mentions policy

I've had to do that in a couple cases over the last couple years but what worries me is the "User installations are disabled via policy on the machine" because I could end up not being able to reinstall because of that and I have to fix that first. Also if I fix that then a normal repair installation should work and not be blocked.

Are you able to instal anything else? That would confirm if the issue is correct or possibly hint at an incorrect error.

If it is true then it sounds like there is a general issue with windows on the machine

so i have a pretty big music collection that i keep on a traditional hard drive.  normally everything works as usual.   well a recent folder that i've added for some reason when i try to open it it takes forever while it's populating all the track titles, artist, etc.  seemed weird because normally it they open relatively fast.  so i did a couple defrags, still doiing it.

so i was digging and come to find out, under properties, like everything on that hard drive is "read only" now.  so i tried unchecking it, apply, ok, over and over on different folders and it sometimes it acts like it's doing something then i check it and it's still read only.

searched for causes and one of them is it could be a from ransomware protection or some other form of A/V so that's why i'm here wondering if ESET has anything to do with it or knows why that's started happening.  thanks, J

Are you able to open the files?

Normally ransomware encrypts the files and also changes their extension. I've personally not heard of ransomware that would make files read only but not encrypt them but I could be wrong

ESET HOME enables you to manage your licenses or subscriptions as well as devices with ESET products. It also provides quick access to Anti-Theft, Parental Control and Password Manager for those who have ESET Smart Security Premium or ESET Mobile Security or Parental Control for Android.

With the transition to the subscription model it will gain on importance. In the future you should have just one account to ESET HOME and you won't need to have another login to e-store. As for activation, you don't need to know your license key, just connect your ESET product with ESET HOME to activate the license.

You can also install the ESET HOME app on Android and get notifications and warnings from the desktop security product, e.g. if you installed ESET on another family member's device.

Just curious what you mean by transition to subscription model as eset currently is A subscription e.g. for a year

yes it does but the problem is if i have the video paused for a short time it doesnt play or buffers, also if i disable adblocker then the ads will return. another thing is after doing research, there are other people having similar issues: https://forum.eset.com/topic/3579-stuttering-in-streaming-videos/

I presume this is different issue? If removing eset doesn't fix the issue it can't be eset

You could try using the special manual uninstaller via the link bellow which needs done in safe mode to make sure all eset's traces are gone but if the issue still persists eset can't be the culprit

i did not have ESET Smart Security installed when i was installing the HP Inc. Firmware from Windows Update For Windows 10.0.19045.2006. i Hope that it hasn't injected a virus or malware into my BIOS 😭

Please note this forum is for eset users so support will be very limited. You can use a trial but it might also be worth posting on a generic security site
