    You are right!

    But...

ESET doesn't have a true anti ransomware shield ; it is just rebranded part of HIPS  to satisfy the market .

Absolutely every time when an user complained about having his files encrypted , ESET blamed somebody else.

While there's things I'd like to see added to eset which have been debated on and off for a while by others, part of the issue is a lot of the complaints of eset not protecting well are made by people who don't know the factors for the issue.

As mentioned here, the requester has already confirmed they are using windows 7 a version that is no longer supported and updated so there will be vulnerabilities. Using an unsupported OS is like having a prison with a hole in the fence. It can have security but there's a gapping hole.

The requester has also mentioned using remote access. This may have been using a weak or even a leaked password and might have not been set up to block things like certain IPs and also multiple unsuccessful login attempts.

As mentioned if Eset was not password protected, they could easily remote on, disable Eset protections that would have possibly blocked the ransomware and then cleared any logs to hide what they had done.

As mentioned they used Nod32 so no network protection or brute force protection and there's no mention of the version of eset so it could have been an older version with less protection.

The thing is Eset may or may not have blocked it if it was on a newer OS with the features mentioned enabled, but security starts with the user and you can't blame an AV when your using old unsupported stuff with bad habits.

I was about to extend your license by 1-2 weeks when I've noticed that the license was extended by 1 year today. I'll wait for ESET LLC to comment on what happened.

    I originally ordered not a one-year, but a two-year license extension, which also includes a $24.99 discount.

dear admin i am have suspect at IDM for intrusion i have found changes in my pc system windows defender wont do offline scan and the windows recovery environment is lost but i managed to enable it  via cmd command but my earliest restore point is gone then i noticed that my IDM app is using an extension from mozilla that is not followed by name Internet Download Manager, Tonec Inc. if i can remember it it was IDM but i cannot find the actual extension in mozilla i think this has not yet been discovered by every AV products as i uploaded the app in virustotal with zero result for malware another thing i observed when i uninstalled it i open gmer and it found rootkit modification then i began searching for hidden files in system32 i found many in red but they are visible in windows explorer there are many symptoms i observed my volume would adjust by itself and recovery will not run and most of them are disabled i think IDM is some PUP with hidden rootkit capabilities or it might be the website is hijacked i now no longer trust it.

I'm sure Idm is a well known download manager. Do you have an Eset license as you mentioned defender. This support site is mainly for Eset customers. You could download a trial but actual virus removal help is mainly for paying customers

    Hello, Marcos

Thank you very much for your reply.

"They do not sell to other countries any more"
ESET did not let me know, neither before nor after my payment.

"I'd suggest purchasing a new license from your local retailer or ESET distributor"
I've already paid twice for a license renewal that I haven't received, and I still haven't been reimbursed, not to mention the time wasted contacting entire ESET.
You will understand that I refuse to pay more for the moment.

"however, it may still show as "pending" on your side for a couple of days until dropped"
My bank account was debited twice. Do you mean a reimbursement?

Besides, my license expires on Monday. I don't have my license renewal and I refuse obviously to pay more for the moment.
Whereas, satisfied with ESET until last week, I extended my renewal not by one, but by two years, I have no other choice today than to install an antivirus of one other brand?

Sometimes it seems the card payment fails but looks like it hasn't on your end but it hasn't went through so this may be the case.

This used to happen somewhere I previously worked where the payment would fail and the money would get stuck in a holding account, ran by a payment service I think. The money would seem to go out of the bank but the store would not receive and eventually it would be automatically returned to the account but it could take a few days.

Not sure if this is the case here

As has been remarked on elsewhere, the business licence is not suitable for home users. I will look elsewhere when the current version stops working. (Turns out that I currently seem to be running ESET Endpoint Antivirus.)

I think some users who had a license got offered the business version in some form but can't remember the full details

We appreciate your feedback, however, I'd like to bring into your attention that there is a "Future changes" topic in each product's forum which is intended for posting users' ideas and suggestions for improvements and is monitored by ESET staff responsible for the particular product.

1, "Scan your computer" should be a relatively quick scan. It doesn't scan inside archives and uses cache to skip trusted and already scanned files. Plus you can create your own on-demand scan profile with your own targets and settings and use it for a custom scan.

2, If you are referring to Parental Control for Android, please raise a support ticket via the built-in form, provide step-by-step instructions and let logs to be submitted to ESET for perusal. Most likely it's device specific if you can bypass Parental Control so it needs to be investigated.

3, Yes, System cleaner is a simple tool to revert changes made by malware to certain system settings, such as blocking Task manager, regedit, etc.

4, Scheduling a scan is already much simpler than scheduling a task via Windows Scheduler for instance. However, if you have an idea how to make it simpler you can post it in the "Future changes" topic as suggested above.

5, I don't understand this point. It's the purpose of the Phantom account to allow a possible theft to log in to a limited user account and report the activity to the device owner.

I think he is worried that people could log in and then download stuff to bypass Eset.

It's a catch 22 thing really. I presume Eset would block these anyways, but a phantom account needs access to the internet to work and it needs to look like a normal account. Otherwise people would realise what was going on and avoid logging in and getting location details

Hi, searched for this topic elsewhere here and couldn't find it, so decided to ask after about a year or two of this: I always have EIS firewall in interactive mode, and every single day Office (OneDrive co-authoring/ Sharepoint, etc) queries for access to the internet, and I always allow and "remember", but it never does remember. I am at my wits' end trying to figure out how to get it to stop asking me, but I also do not wish to switch to automatic mode. Can anything be done? No other program behaves in this way! Cheers :)

If it's every day I'm not sure, but I do know firewall rules don't support wildcards at least at the moment.

Office changes it's folder each version e.g. folder with version 1.0 will be version 1.5 on update etc. So technically the firewall classes it as a new rule

Thanks Marcos. I don't know what the website is. The notifications pop up when i am not using the mobile. In both cases i couldn't establish which webpage they are connected to. That's what i was asking among other things. I get the notification about the threat, ESET tells me to click on button to clear the notification and no other info on it. When i check the reports on threats you only see those two names but no connection to webpages.

    Thanks,

    Rick

Could be an app that's running in the background trying to access the site?

I have set up 2fa for Eset Password manager of mine. Also checked the box remember me. Eset needs to introduce lock option which users can use to manually lock the password manager. A lot of password managers offer this feature. When I open my PC and browser for the first time it is automatically signed me in which is not good as per privacy or security perspective. I have setup the inactivity lock after few mins. But if it opens the password manager after the browser is opened for the first time then the whole security is being compromised. Rather introduce a lock option and make sure 2fa authentication will not be required after signing in for the first time afterwards the user can lock it manually. It keeps asking me the master password and 2fa at small intervals if I have not enabled the remember me option.

Please reply to my post and provide me a solution for it.

I've got a lifetime license for another password manager so don't use esets apart from for very occasional testing but surprised by this.

The one I use locks automatically after inactivity. I believe I can manually lock it but I've never checked. So does yours just lock randomly even if your using the computer?

I have sorted mine from oldest to newest. Many modules are from 2022 simply because there was no need to fix critical issues and update them:

    image.png

Would it be worth having a page somewhere with the latest normal and pre release modules. I've seen this come up a few times so at least this way people could see which versions they had and if they where the latest. Would possibly be a way to identify borked installations

  11. East do offer this as a service which I presume is for anyone e.g. non eset users https://www.eset.com/us/malware-removal/#c3960956

However I don't know what this means for eset members. As you may have seen on the forum eset will help and advise what to do with malware findings but if they where requested by the user to help e.g. remote on, I'm not sure if that would also be free.

Someone from eset would have to clarify this e.g. @Marcos

Certainly to disable"Enable protected website redirection" is a temporary solution waiting for Eset to solve the problem, however using the built-in Protected Browser in ESS you are still protected.

    Regards

It might be worth also emailing your findings if you have not done so as I know Eset prefers this over the forum. I've not seen anyone from Eset address this on here but will tag @Marcosin as they may have just missed this

What do you mean when something tries to access it? I installed ESET afterwards and if there is no access after being infected, can't it scan? @peteyt

What I mean is if something tries to access it eset will see the attempt and scan. It will not constantly scan.

I suspect. Is there anything I can be absolutely sure it is infected with or something I can be absolutely sure it is not?

As I posted every time you posted this, the chances are slim. What makes you think you are infected?

As I also posted, flash it which will remove any malware if there. If you are that worried why not do this and then you'll know for sure. But the chance is if Eset is not detecting anything then you are fine.
