  1. It's interesting that after buying a license last night and installing this on my desktop and laptop, the laptop is fine, but SSL sites were not reachable at all on the desktop. I had to disable SSL scanning to get it to work. As another user pointed out, this forum cannot be accessed while this problem is present. I hope these issues are fixed soon. Though I purchsed this product knowing there were issues, I have not been able to find another that did not have some. This is a terrible moment in time for Windows 10 and security software.
  2. I just bought a license and installed. It updated and ran the first scan. Now the UI says attention required and prompts me to click a link for a "Theft optimization report". This opens a web browser and after logging in goes to a blank page. When I previously ran a trial it worked. I logged directly into the site and the anti theft portion does not work. I assume there is a site issue? ---Ok, it finally worked after leaving the browser windows open for about 10 minutes.
  3. I've never seen a 0x00000124 BSOD not be bad memory. It is defective, incompatible with the motherboard,, undervolted or overclocked beyond its capabilities. As much as I have wanted to blame it on any particular software, replacing the RAM has always fixed it.
  4. @Seymour Did you try pre-relase updates, updating, then rebooting?
  5. This build is released (10586). I have it downloading to 2 machines right now through Windows update. I hope everyone is prepared.
  6. I don't know if this helps anyone but I just reinstalled my trial of ESS v9 (about 3 weeks left) on build 10586 and enabled pre-release updates, updated, and rebooted. Everything seems fine, at least so far.
  7. Ok, I did have some issues with SSL sites. Not a major issue, but not ideal. I also found that with the release of 64 bit Firefox, that it would crash with ESS 9 installed. That coupled with the fact that I wanted to install the Windows 10 November Update, which breaks ESS 9 and is not yet supported, I have stopped my trial for now. It has potential and unlike some, I really like the UI. With a couple of updates I will likely try it again, but for now I cannot run it. The uninstaller works fine now, it even deleted the phantom account created for the anti theft.
  8. puff-m-d,Thanks for the reply. I think you have convinced me to give it a try.
  9. I had run the beta of v9 and liked it, other than the bad uninstall experience I had. After giving up on 2 other products I find unusable, I am thinking about giving this a run. A few questions: 1. I let my license expire. I had run the beta. Will I be able to register this as a trial and have it work, or will it say my trial time is expired? 2. I have seen complaints (everyone has them). Is there anyone running this on Windows 10 x64 without issue or complaint? 3. Has the uninstall issue been fixed? I guess not a huge deal, since I know how to work around it now. 4. Does the final run similar to the beta? I have beta tested software before that was great and the release broke it. I realize I can find my own answers to this by installing it, but it's potentially time wasted if I can't get someone to tell me it's a worthwhile effort. Thanks.
  10. There is an ongoing thread at Wilders and I thiought it appropriate the mention it here. The UI for ESET products does not seem to scale with high Windows DPI settings. For anyone that is visually impared (none of us are getting any younger) this makes it difficult to read in some situations. Are there any plans to address this in the near future?
  11. Is the service set to automatic? If not change it. If so I would uninstall ESS, reboot, then reinstall.
  12. @Arakasi I may give that a shot with the HIPS. Like you said, if I don't like it I can turn it back off. @Aryeh Goretsky Sounds like we're running close to the same setup, but I opted for the EMET 4.1 Update 1 since it was just released today and was the recommeded version (by Microsoft on the download page). Good to hear it been working well for you. This is turning out to be a very nice configuration. Ligher than I thought it would be, and no conflicts or issues so far.
  13. @mma64... As much as I would like to test that, the last time I installed Opera on one of my machines it destroyed Internet Explorer beyond repair. I might be able to try in the next day or 2 in a virtual machine, if nobody else has responded first.
  14. Thanks for the reply. I see Microsoft released EMET 4.1 Update 1 today. Trying it out with no issues so far.
  15. I would think in automatic mode all of the Microsoft traffic would be allowed. Not an official answer, but to my understanding in automatic mode very little outbound traffic is blocked.
  16. I just put ESS back on my machine after some beta testing of some other products. I have opted to use MBAM 2 realtime (exclusions set) and they seem to be fine. What are others' thoughts on adding EMET to this setup? Necessary? Beneficial? Too much? Also, should I mess with the settings for HIPS at all? Or is that more maintenance than it's worth? I have tried it in interactive mode in the past and it generates a lot of prompts.
  17. ...Sounds like Marcos is already using a fixed copy. Awesome I got a copy also and am testing it and it seems to work fine.
  18. Sounds good. Is there a staff member that can verify this?
  19. In my browsing of various forums I have discovered that Kaspersky is in the process of releasing a patch that includes a fix that relates to heartbleed because their product makes use of a vulnerable version of the OpenSSL library libeay32.dll. After discovering this I found that Norton products also contain such components to connect to their own servers. Does/did ESET make use of any of these OpenSSL libraries? I'm sure the risk is small but this has been promoted as a server only problem (maybe an Android problem) but I am coming to find that many other products use that dll on Windows machines including Adobe products and some security suites as mentioned. I'm wondering what the potential scope of this problem actually is.
  20. May I ask what of the reverse? If Windows is already updated and then ESS is installed are any problems expected? I know the first thing it does after you activate it is update, but are there any issues between installation and update?
  21. I hate to bring this back to the top but it looks like the regular tray icons look bad too. I thought they had been updated but it appears they have not.
  22. I have used it in that situation without changing any settings and it works fine.
  23. I have discovered that since I am getting expiration notices (I have renewed, not processed yet) that the yellow tray icons are low resolution and look horribly pixelated when fonts are set to 125%. This is the default for my laptop so I am stuck with it. I have noticed the regular icons seem to have been updated but it looks like someone forgot the yellow ones (maybe the red ones, I haven't seen them to know). I know, it's only a cosmetic issue but maybe something for someone to update in a future build. Thanks. I am happy that this is the complaint that I am posting, rather than the much larger issues I have posted on other vendors sites for their larger problems they can't seem to fix.
  24. I've been downloading from Majorgeeks for longer than I can remember (probably about a dozen years) and they make their money from the advertising on the site. I have never seen them add anything to a download. If nothing else Filehippo is an official mirror for Piriform products and they add nothing either. CNET on the other hand...
