  1. Well, looks like I've found a bug in v6. I've been moved up to high level support. I have uninstalled v6 and put v4.5 back on our server. The problem has completely disappeared now so there is something wrong with v6 that needs to be fixed.
  2. OK. Finding some more pertinent information I believe. The client PCs have a mix of either Microsoft Office or OpenOffice installed. I didn't realize this until I had the PCs show file extensions in Windows Explorer. Files with normal Microsoft extensions such as .doc, .docx, .xls, .ppt are the ones that are opening slow. Files with OpenOffice extension such as .odt or .ods, when opened in MS Word or Excel open just fine. So, it is something with just the normal Microsoft Office file extensions that is causing this. If I open an OpenOffice speadsheet in MS Excel (this is an .ods file) and then save this file to as an .xlsx file, this converted .xlsx file then opens slow as well. Disabling the "Document Protection" feature on both the server and the client does not have any effect. MS Office documents still open slow. I've also tried disabling the "Protected View" options in Word/Excel in "Trust Center" but that didn't make a difference eitehr. So, a bit more useful information but no solution yet.
  3. Yes, selecting the "Pause protection" option on the server makes the problem go away on all my client PC. I have all our client PC setup to not scan network drives. I have also tried disabling the real-time protection for scanning network drives on the Windows 2008 R2 server but this does not make a difference. The only thing I've been able to find to fix this issue, thus far, is Pausing protection of ESET. Anything other than this gives me a "Downloading:\\fileservername\path\filename.xxx" message for 15-30 seconds until the file actually opens. I've done 3 chat sessions with ESET so far and we've tried switching on/off numerous options with no luck. I'd hate to do this but I'm about ready to uninstall v6 and put v4.5 back on as these problems didn't happen with v4.5. I would like to find out where this is coming from though as I'm sure I'll have to upgrade to v6 one day. Anybody else experiencing this issue?
  4. Hello, My migrating of clients to v6 of ESET has been going very well until recently. After upgrading one of our Windows 2008 R2 servers from v4.5 to v6 of ESET File Security, Word, Excel, PDFs, etc. are taking 15-30 seconds to open from client PCs. The client PCs are also running ESET v6 if that makes a difference. As soon as I disable ESET on the Windows 2008 server, files open up fast, as they did when we were on v4.5 of ESET File Security. While I do expect a slight slow down as files are scanned when they are opened, this is not what I've seen in the past or would expect from an ESET product. Any thoughts that would get things working as they did before without turning off important features of ESET? This server is a single domain control in a small business environment with about 6 PCs. It doesn't do much other than share files on the network and run one business application for 2 PCs. Thanks, Dave
