  1. Strangely, one of my two Windows 10 computers was offered an update to 13.2.16.0 but my main computer on which I filed this report remains at 13.2.15.0 and is not being offered an update a week after the other computer got the update. Does 13.2.16.0 fix the problem? Is it normal for updates to be offered in this inconsistent manner?
  2. It sounds like this is a known problem and I'll just wait for the fix. Thanks.
  3. After the update to NOD32 13.2.15.0 for Windows I noticed that the weekly computer scans that I do routinely started taking an hour. They had previously taken 10 minutes. The first time I figured this was just an initial scan, but subsequent scans take the same hour. I've also noticed that the list of files being scanned used to proceed methodically through folders, but now they switch back and forth between c:\windows... and other folders such as c:\program files (x86)..... The new slowness is a bother. Is this a feature or a bug?
  4. The re-installation solution given to me here worked for 6 weeks, but there is now an additional updating problem (don't know whether this is related to the original problem or not). I get the red main screen "Security alert" listing "Detection Engine out of date" and ""ESET LiveGrid is not available. Checking for updates, ESET NOD32 Antivirus has the same version as on my other computer, 12.0.31.0, but last successful update was a week ago on the affected computer. Check for updates doesn't get anything new. Restarting the computer didn't help. I had installed a Windows Update shortly after starting the computer, but didn't check what the red triangle on the NOD32 tray icon was about since I expect those when there is a Windows Update to install. Should I start a new thread or continue in this or another existing thread (one with this issue from 2016 was locked). Is 2 problems in 2 months a way of telling me to switch to a different company (my 2 year renewal is coming up in a few weeks)?
  5. Doing a regular uninstall and reinstall worked. Many settings were lost but I reconstituted them based on the version on the other computer. Thanks.
  6. On the Home display in NOD32 a question appeared last month about enabling the ESET LiveGrid Feedback System. I've responded "Do not allow" and Windows 10 asks "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", but after choosing Yes, the question is reappears on the Home display and the NOD32 tray icon has a blue exclamation point badge. Periodically an alert pops up asking the same question, but it also doesn't take no for an answer. I don't have this problem on NOD32 on a different Windows 10 computer. I update the two copies whenever one asks for an update, but the misbehaving copy reports its version as 11.2.63.0, while the properly functioning copy reports 12.0.27.0. Is there some simple way to fix this? My 2 year license is up soon, and if there is no known solution to this problem and the only suggestions are to see if deleting and reinstalling works that might be a good opportunity to switch to a new antivirus product.
  7. I asked the WinZip folks what was going on and they told me "This is the false positive warning message from Windows or Antivirus application when you are downloading any executable(.exe) files. The WinZip application setup file and other downloads from WinZip download page are safe and does not contains any Virus, malware etc. " I told them I've never gotten messages like this with other downloads and that I didn't have enough confidence in them to use their product. I got a refund. I hadn't got around to deleting their EXE file and ran a NOD32 system scan and got the following 12 warnings: winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-32.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSPrivacyProtector.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-32.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSSystemCleaner.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-32.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSHelper.dll - a variant of Win32/Systweak.N potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-32.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSRegistryOptimizer.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-32.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSS.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-32.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSRegClean.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-64.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSPrivacyProtector.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-64.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSSystemCleaner.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-64.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSHelper.dll - a variant of Win32/Systweak.N potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-64.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSRegistryOptimizer.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-64.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSS.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application winzip190.exe » ZIP » WINZIP190-64.MSI » MSI » Cabs.w1.cab » CAB » WINZIPSSRegClean.exe - a variant of Win32/Systweak potentially unwanted application For now I'll continue using WinZip 9, which triggers no such messages. The problem with the old version is that it doesn't integrate into right-click context menus in Windows 8.1. If someone can recommend a program that does and is not loaded with Potentially Unwanted Applications, I'd be interested in the details. It is hard to believe that the folks at WinZip are telling the complete truth. The assertion that all EXEs give such warnings made it clear that the person at WinZip who responded either didn't know what is going on or wasn't telling. And if they don't know what is going on, they haven't gotten truthful training.
  8. Now, for WinZip 19 you get: Threat "a variant of win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application". It seems that WinZip should work together with the NOD32 folks to get a download that passes checks. Are customers supposed to ignore the warning if WinZip says not to worry? That seems like an unnecessary risk, and it seems odd that WinZip hasn't made any progress on making a product that people can trust.
  9. I got the same problem: Threat "a variant of Win32/Systweak.L potentially unwanted application"
