  1. Can we have this? : Functionality to block USB media storage devices when connected in MTP/PTP mode. Add an option to scan USB media storage devices from context menu or make 'em scannable when Real Time Protection / Automatic Device Scan is selected again in MTP/PTP mode.
  2. The only real change that I would like to see with this new beta release is : Functionality to Block USB media storage devices when connected as MTP/PTP. Add an option to scan USB media storage devices from context menu or make 'em scannable when Automatic Device Scan is selected again in MTP/PTP mode.
  3. Few days ago, I contacted the ESET Customer Care Support by filling the built in product form & explicitly mentioned this thread link so that they can have a better insight about the ongoing issue but got the response that I have contacted the Nordic Support channel and they are unable to find out my details hence can not help. They guided me to contact the ESET partners from the shared link. FWIW, I was using the license key which was given to me by a dear friend of mine who won it in a Giveaway. So I think ESET does not honor/provide support for users who are using the Giveaway keys or may be there are some geo restrictions applicable with the license keys?. Now, I have migrated to Paid license because the GA key is expired and is thinking about to contact the ESET Customer support. Today, I just stumbled upon the new ESS build 8.0.312.0 (x64) which is a new minor update, though as of now there are no details about the changelog neither on product home page nor on this forum. I am away from my main system, so before reaching out to customer support, I just wanted to know whether the said issue is fixed or not ??? Please someone enlighten me on this....
  4. Thank you very much for your valuable suggestion. I have raised a support ticket With ESET using the inbuilt customer care contact form & now waiting for their reply.
  5. I fail to see why there's so much fuss with Protocol Filtering/Firewall & now disabling/uninstalling Epfw Component? If this is something which needs to be done then I don't see any reason to use ESET Smart Security at all. Like as I mentioned before in my post, uninstalling ESET from the system fixes the issue. I appreciate your efforts to help me out, as this issue is sporadic, I would like to refrain myself from testing alternate methods because this is my main system & network connectivity is a major part of my workflow. ATM, messing with network settings is a no go for me. Now, waiting for the response from ESET Staff to sort out the things as soon as possible.
  6. please check post #3, this workaround is also reported to be not working. I think ESET Team is already aware about this issue. There is a detailed FAQ from IDM developer telling ESET is the main culprit behind downloads being stuck & data corruption, unfortunately they (IDM) can't do anything about this.
  7. Sorry, I completely forgot to reply to your post. FYI, I tried your workaround by disabling the protocol filtering & excluding the IDM process as well but still results are same. Also, shared the WireShark Logs with @Marcos but have not heard anything from him so far. Have a look at the screenshot shared below, this is what I am talking abt, when download progress reaches at 99% It automatically stops and Upon Pausing and resuming the download, IDM results in Data corruption and starts the entire download from the scratch. To download large files on slow connections with FUP applied is a PITA.
  8. Already mentioned this in OP, it's Windows 8.1 x64. as this happens sporadically, already tried the said workaround (mentioned in OP) & is not working not even when firewall is disabled. If I uninstall ESS completely, then I am not having any freezing/download stuck/high CPU usage issues whatsoever. FWIW, mainly this issue arises when IDM Queue Scheduler is used to download files over a given period of time. I guess this all started with ESS v7.
  9. Hi ESET Support Staff, As the title states, on Windows 8.1 Pro x64 (Updated till date) I am having the issues of download files freezing at 99% (most of them, irrespective of the size) when using third party download manager viz. Internet Download Manager popularly known as IDM by Tonec Inc. This behaviour leads to high CPU usage & data corruption as well. Before posting this thread, I checked the ESET SS section for the above said issue and found 2-3 threads having the similar description but none of the answers/resolutions were convincing, In fact all of them were just a pass on. I have already tried excluding the said application from protocol filtering but it doesnt works at all. Checked the resolve host name setting as is shown in this image but its also unchecked. Tried with Pre-release updates as well but issue still persists. FWIW, for the said issue, below is the detailed article from the IDM support section, please go through it. hxxp://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/register/new_faq/problems4.html Excerpt from the link:-- Now, as per the resolution, it is stated that user have to remove the KB 2750841 or need to install KB 2789397 which is also not working as the KB 2789397 ends up with an error "This update is not applicable to your system". https://i.imgur.com/ipdBAyp.png Here is the module list :-- Product Version ESET SS v8.0.304 Virus signature database: 11072 (20150126) Rapid Response module: 5415 (20150126) Update module: 1056 (20150113) Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1449 (20150116) Advanced heuristics module: 1153 (20140915) Archive support module: 1216 (20141127) Cleaner module: 1104 (20141205) Anti-Stealth support module: 1068 (20141218) Personal firewall module: 1259 (20141219) Antispam module: 1029 (20141103) ESET SysInspector module: 1245 (20141028) Real-time file system protection module: 1009 (20130301) Translation support module: 1273 (20141008) HIPS support module: 1158 (20150113) Internet protection module: 1165B (20141128) Web content filter module: 1036 (20140625) Advanced antispam module: 2038 (20150123) Database module: 1061 (20141124) Please, look into this and fix this ubiquitous nag.
  10. I second that what OP has stated. I am on Windows 8.1 x64 & while using ESS 8.0.304.0, Google Chrome Browser (x64) is not able to search for any queries neither from the Homepage/Right Click Context menu nor from the Omnibox itself. The only workaround that I have come across is to Disable the SSL Protection/Scanning for HTTPS links which indeed solves this issue. Developers needs to look into this as SSL Protection/Scanning is known to be interfering with HTTPS links & Windows Update, which infact is a long standing issue & needs to be addressed on priority basis. Now, I am eagerly waiting for the said Internet protection module 1167B which is expected to fix this erroneous behaviour. Well, ATM, here's the list of installed components :-- Virus signature database: 10878 (20141215) Rapid Response module: 5216 (20141215) Update module: 1055 (20141118) Antivirus and antispyware scanner module: 1446 (20141208) Advanced heuristics module: 1153 (20140915) Archive support module: 1215 (20141106) Cleaner module: 1102 (20141112) Anti-Stealth support module: 1067 (20141210) Personal firewall module: 1254 (20141201) Antispam module: 1029 (20141103) ESET SysInspector module: 1245 (20141028) Real-time file system protection module: 1009 (20130301) Translation support module: 1273 (20141008) HIPS support module: 1155 (20141127) Internet protection module: 1165B (20141128) Web content filter module: 1036 (20140625) Advanced antispam module: 1990 (20141215) Database module: 1061 (20141124)
  11. @Developers | Suggestion : How about adding an option or tweaking the ESS Firewall in such a way which allows to add a range of uneven IP addresses in a single step (while creating a rule) instead of manually adding them one by one. e.g. If someone wants to configure the ESS Firewall with below shared IP addresses i.e. 50.19.71.56,50.02.51.88,89.02.56.44,75.97.18.13,90.27.36.14,89.11.249.99,16.51.153.255,101.198.12.78,154.215.87.058,216.205.18.85, In such scenarios, user has to add them one by one which is very time consuming. IMO, instead there should be an option which allows any IP range to be added in single step like as is present in Windows Firewall Control (third party firewall app which makes the tedious job of configuring the built in Windows Firewall a lot easier).
  12. For good sake, please revert the Eset logo as introduced in v7 with v6 i.e. from cCgvCzCs.pngto d3ZpKxk.png The icon is fine and helps identify the product. Every company on the planet uses a company logo, i cant see why Eset should be any different There's nothing wrong with sporting ESET logo with an 'e' but IMO, the latter one looks more premium. @Developers | could you please Add an option/workaround so that we can change the the said logo as per our needs? ATM, this is not possible as the Logo File is digitally signed and while making any changes to it breaks the data integrity. Few Suggestions : Please remove the 'Activate your Product' option from the 'Tray Icon' context menu once the product is activated using valid license key. Make ESET GUI scalable so that it doesn't looks too small on large displays like on mine 27" monitor it looks very -very small also mentioned by fellow members/users. I am not saying it's not scalable but present GUI scalability is not something which holds or remembers custom positioning & reverts to default position after system restart.. Automatically add Connectify Process, Network Services etc. (shown in below screenshot) to trusted Rules & Zones as all of these processes/services are digitally signed. As per my understanding they don't possess any threat (The reason for my assumption is truly based on results after studying/testing various AV/ Internet Security Suites and by any means they don't tend to block these processes).. By doing so, users don't have to wonder why they are not able to connect to Connectify HotSpot. Make SSL Scanning a bit more effective so that it doesn't blocks windows updates. ATM, if SSL Scanning/protection is enabled, when an user checks for Windows Updates it (SSL Scanning) blocks the traffic to Windows Servers which results in Windows Update Error & doesnt lets users to update their system to latest Windows Hotfixes/features. To overcome this, one has to either disable the SSL Scanning or by moving on to Manual/interactive mode. Just for the record, setting the SSL scanning to manual/interactive mode is not the best practice to follow as it results in too much human efforts. It's just my perspective cant say about other users. I'm using both version 7 and 8 beta on two different Windows 8.1 machines and have not had any issues with Smart Security. frequent ESET GUI STOPPED Errors. @Arakasi talking abt contacting the Customer support, Well this reminds me about magic moment that once I had with Your Esteemed Customer Support who didn't bothered to reply with the root cause and resolution for ESET GUI Crashing -- whenever launched either from Start Screen or Tray Icon (issue was persistent when Windows 8 was launched - For me only workaround that has worked was by Reformatting the Windows), even though your Tech Support took my system for a TeamViewer ride, then asked to upload the dump files on a FTP Server, after performing the said task the guy on telephonic conversation said that I'll be notified about the problem source & possible solution in next 3-5 working days but till now never heard from them. Promptly waited for 2 weeks, continuously followed the Chain Mails to hear something from you guys so that issue can be fixed but like as I mentioned they never replied & the only resort was Complete system format. Let Bygones be bygones. Hoping for the best possible Experience & Top Notch Protection with the upcoming release.
