  1. I uninstalled ESS version 8 and installed version 9 (running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit).  The version 9 install went smoothly - but when ESS started, I got alerts that both web filtering and anti-phising were turned off and would not enable, even though they appeared to be on in Advanced Setup  I have uninstalled/reinstalled version 9 twice now - same result.

Is there anything else I can try?

  2. Per hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3509 :

"SysRescue is not able to clean detected threats in Windows Vista 64-bit, and Windows 8/8.1

Due to the file-system architecture of these operating systems, ESET SysRescue Live cannot clean threats detected during scanning. An updated version of SysRescue Live with the ability to remove threats on these operating systems will be available soon."

    My questions are:

    1) Is there any estimated timetable for the release of the updated version of SysRescue Live?

    2) In the meantime, what would ESET recommend to clean an infection detected by SysRescue Live on a 64-bit Windows 8.1 machine?  (I don't have an infection on my system presently, but would like to know how to proceed should I have to use SysRescue Live.)

  3. Running ESET Smart Security 8 and Quicken Premier 2015.  I have HIPS set to Smart Mode.

Whenever I start Qucken, I get the following HIPS prompt to allow access to the following:

    Application type: C:\Program Files (x86)\Quicken\qw.exe

    Access type:  Delete file

    Target:   C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Startup\Billminder.lnk

I click on Allow Access and Create Rule.  The same HIPS prompt appears again.  I click on Allow Access again, and the prompt finally goes away.

I have multiple rules for this file in HIPS, but it doesn't seem to make a difference, the twin prompts always appear.  I tried switching HIPS to Learning Mode and launched Quicken so ESS would 'remember', but when I re-enable Smart Mode, the prompts come back.

Interestingly, there is no Billminder.lnk in the target folder.  I have had the Startup folder open in File Explorer before, during and after launching Quicken and the file never appears.

Any ideas as to what might be going on?

  4. Hello, new user and Norton refugee(yay!) here.  Since installing ESET Smart Security, the Google Drive app on my desktop (Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 84-bit) reports that it can not connect to the internet.

I have both the HIPS and Personal Firewall modules in ESET Smart Security set to learning mode and I saw the firewall create a rule to permit outbound access for Google Drive on TCP port 443, which should have done the trick, but didn't.

    Any suggestions?
