I am in Interactive FW Mode- After a reboot I got a popup asking if I wanted to allow something like puuninstall.exe (?), that was discovered two weeks ago. I foolishly said yes, and created a permanent rule (remember)!? Now I can't find the rule to find out the exact name of what I allowed, so I can research it!- -Where is it, and how do I delete the rule if it's malware? -VSS is Disabled, but does ESS have some kind of rollback...? -Any other recommendations? BTW- I think I'd be safer in Automatic Mode, and let ESS decide what actions to take!

I want to upgrade from v7 to v8?- 1. Is Over the Top best, or uninstall v7, and install v8?- 2. I downloaded the offline installer- Is that best, or should I use the Live Installer /reboot? 3. Help talks about using Training Mode for "Initial Setup", but No instructions? - I realize that there is No active FW, so I wouldn't browse- Just open/close All my Applications to create permanent FW rules (this Really made v7 Faster vs Automatic). - I guess I would then switch back to Automatic Mode & reboot, or reboot switch to Automatic & reboot again? - Anything else (Of course, I would do a System Image backup first!)?

Well Time Sync wasn't working Before manual updating in Learning mode (rule was created), and is now. Is there something else you want?

I am using Automatic mode, and FF/IE11 browsers were slow to open... I'd often have to open/close them 3 times before my Hotmail would be allowed by ESS to download! While in Learning mode yesterday (fixing manual time update issue)- I opened/closed my Zemana anti-logger/FF/IE11/CCleaner/... (several rules created, no browsing, and back to Automatic), today my browsers are Very Fast in Automatic, and Hotmail downloaded on 1st open! 1. Now that rules have been created for IE11/FF, has my firewall protection been turned off when browsing, and do I need to delete these new browser rules!? 2. If I switched to Interactive mode- Would the same kind of permanent rules... be created, as if in Learning mode...? 3. When installing a new Trusted program/Automatic Mode (I 1st submit them to VirusTotal, and do a Context menu scan), it's been difficult to get ESS to fully allow them...? -Would install be better if I first switched to learning mode, and then back to automatic after reboot/opening program 1st time, or...? -The same with manual Windows Updates/CCleaner/on-demand scans/...? 4. When uninstalling a program the page is Slow to load, but the page loads Fast in Learning mode. -Would it be better if I uninstalled in learning mode until after reboot? BTW- I searched this forum on 1-4, and could not find answers to Any of my questions?- I realize this is allot for 1 Topic, but would serve as a useful tutorial for other users in just 1 topic!

rugk Thank you!- Switching to learning mode/ manually updating, caused a rule to be created, and internet time is now in sync with taskbar time. I will see if problem is solved over the week, before I try to change the interval?

Questions on best way to v7.0.317 update?- 1. If I Live Update ESS over the top, rather than waiting for regular module update- Will I have to re-trust everything on my computer again? This is Very time consuming, and exporting/importing settings doesn't Trust! 2. If I wait for the regular module update- Will I have to re-trust everything anyways?

The very latest is now VSD 10445! And it was downloaded by one of the automatic hourly checks. So for me it works as usual again. I had to manually update to 10445 (From update links, I see dozens of signatures!)- 1 update in 21hrs is NOT acceptable to me, and I don't like to rely on iffy heuristics to maybe protect me! It would appear that ESS is slowing their regular updates, because of their big module update!? Other foreign AV's I've had got servers in the USA to solve slow update issues... If ESS doesn't come up to speed..., I'll dump them!

The latest database version is VSD 10444. So if that's what you got then you are up to date. Edit: Yes the product will check for new VSD updates hourly, but VSD's are not released on an hourly basis so the product may not always download a new VSD on each "ping" to the update servers. My VSD is 20140919, and that was 20hrs ago! Consumer Reports gave ESS Top Ratings on everything, but Responding to new Threats! 20hrs is ridiculous!

My computer time is not updating on startup (2 ESS computers, for quite some time)?- It is 10sec slower than the clock that shows with Adjust date/time. When I try to do it manually it fails? I Googled, and they say that because Port 123 is closed by my 3d party firewall it won't let it update. I don't like the security risk of unblocking this port! Is there some way to get the firewall to allow the time update service...?

My last automatic update was yesterday at 3:55pm, and when I click Update Now it says your signatures are up to date (2 computers)? This has been a problem for some time, and it's set to check hourly? What's up?

I had the ESS FW set to Public on my desktop, but was having Internet not found issues on my laptop? When I then set the FW to Network, the internet issues went away, but slowed my laptop with the file sharing... Now how do I now set the ESS FW to Strict protection, and hope internet issues don't come back?

I always do custom. But I did a cutom install once to opt-out but I got another present, after that happened I keep them enabled, always. Good evening Most free software (some paid too) has PUP's to pay for them, and SS will block their download/installation if detection is enabled!

This is True, but if you open MSconfig/Services- You will see that Defender is still running/slowing your computer, and Win updt will still download Defender! This is how I finally was Completely rid of Defender- Reboot (releases all files, and do this Before Any Install/Uninstall/...!), then Open Defender/Tools, and untick Every box in All the left box modules.../ reboot. Then open Services, Right click on Windows Defender/Properties, and Disable.../Reboot. Done!

Sorry for not saying that my laptop OS is Win7 Pro 64-bit (retail SP1 CD ONLY)- I had forgotten that this forum is one of the few that doesn't have signatures (wish they did!). FYI (I'm a 40yr software tech)- An in-place reinstall (works on Win8 too) How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7 (see above forum link for your OS... They also have a Win8 forum, with a different In-place reinstall procedure.). It is not Really an upgrade- It uses the same process to completely repair your OS, while saving all of your old programs/settings..., and Not having to to a time consuming complete system reinstall. Saves my clients Big Buck$, and Much less Hassle for me trying to figure out their configuration...! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thank you for the above Tips, and I got my laptop working again!- I uninstalled SS (first exported settings to a desktop folder). I also uninstalled Zemana anti-logger free (encrypts keyboard strokes to fool most rootkits, and be sure to disable SS PUP... detection/custom install so No add-ons...!) !). My laptop IE11 was corrupted after last Java updates, and I needed to do an in-place Win7 Reinstall- Windows Seven Forum Upgrade procedure...- repairs without having to reinstall system/programs/settings. AV & 3d party firewall Must be disabled until completely done! I have successfully done this Many times with my old KIS AV, that allowed me to disable until done. I tried disabling ESET until restart, but Win7 reinstall was Very corrupted (nothing worked)! Reinstall does Several restarts, and ESET must have been turned back on- I made a Macrium Reflect Image backup, was able to recover, and still need to do an in-place reinstall! Question1- I looked in ESET Advanced settings, and couldn't find out how to disable it until Win7 reinstall is done? Is this possible, as getting all apps Trusted... on a new ESET install, is Very time consuming! Question2- If not, is their some way that I can export/import settings/Trusted/..., into a fresh ESET reinstall?

I am having connection issues through my Trendnet TW100S4W1CA Router, running 2 computers (both Public, and same username.). Laptop is Win7 Pro 64-bit, and Desktop is Win7 Pro 32-bit. My ISP said old router was bad, so I installed new router that re-configured, but didn't close normally (froze)- OK that day, but after 3d reboot next day, same problem? Tried resetting router, but still bad? Replaced modem/router reset (froze again), and again OK until todays 3d reboot, then permanent yellow exclamation mark over internet taskbar icon again (internet completely not found...). I'm now direct connected to modem, so I can post this Topic.

Scanning for PUPs is causing problems (Downloads & installations...), and I would like to Completely disable it (enabled at esetss install)? Don't tell me about workarounds..., as they didn't work for me!
