  1. Please understand the difference between toolbars, site advisors and something added into Eset. I am NOT talking about a toolbar. Clearly most of you have never looked at the competition. When the Avast installer is complete your default browser opens up and it will promoted you to install the separate add on. Such as for Chrome. I am not talking about a toolbar. I am merely talking about a site advisor similar to WOT. But instead of being user based opinions its malware based. Again if 8 top leading antivirus companies can do then so can Eset. Google Chrome has banished 99% of any type of toolars. Avira and Avast put a small "a" next toy Chrome's URL bar to give you a site rating. When you perform a Bing, Yahoo or Google search it gives you a rating in your search results. Bitdefender gives you traffic light. Needless junk is something like what 360 Total Security is doing. A start up manager. A temp file cleaner. A Facebook login. A defragger. Those are examples of programs that do not belong incorporated into an antivirus. Norton 360 is another prime example of that.
  2. WOT is a joke by the way. It's based on user opinions and not actual malware related facts. Just read some of the comments. You seem to be avoiding the topic in a round about way. Again if all the previous mentioned companies can do it then so can Eset. Its just another layer. And was we all know a layered approach is the best approach. The average user has no idea what live grid is. Most never even open up the main GUI. FYI..............Thanks for the reply.
  3. Isn't this a suggestion thread? Not something based on your opinion? Every single av company out there does it. Its a FREE browser plugin. Instead of arguing with me you could say 'Hey thanks for the idea and we will look into incorporating into future builds". This is a tool that most experts do not need but it is beneficial to newbies. 1. Avast 2. Norton 3. Avira 4. Bitdefender 5. Kaspersky 6. McAfee 7. Webroot 8. AVG All the above have site advisors. So all of them cannot be wrong. I am not talking about something built within Eset. I am talking about a browser plugin.
  4. ESET uses a strong web protection instead of dedicated plugins. Thanks to this, the scanner works independently and can check even the communication of potentially running malware, block the payload and thus prevent further damage. You clearly are not understanding the difference between web protection and a browser plugin. I am talking about a site advisor. Such as WOT. It rates sites in your Google search and gives you a trust rating. Also shows the site rating in your browser bar. All the antiviruses I mentioned have web protection. So does Avast. But they all also include a site advisor.
  5. I would like to suggest some sort of site advisor. A browser plugin would be great. Not for myself but for newbies. Bitdefefender, Norton, Avast, Avira, Webroot all have them.
  6. Are all the accounts password protected? You mean you are using a password to protect your user login?
  7. Your not alone. this happens to me whenever I install my USB sticks. I unplug them then plug in again and problem is gone. Uninstalled Eset and went back to Webroot. Problem gone. Go back to Eset and problem is back.
  8. Do not download from Cnet/Download.com. Their packed installers come with a toolbar. If you look closer at the download link there is a "direct download" link instead of the big green download bar. Best option is to download from on of these sites: 1. hxxp://www.downloadcrew.com/ 2. hxxp://www.filehippo.com/ 3. hxxp://www.filehorse.com/ 4. hxxp://www.majorgeeks.com/ 5. hxxp://www.neowin.net/news/cat/software 6. hxxp://win.softpedia.com/
  9. 99% of the time it's not your software firewall causing the issue. It's your hardware firewall. I play WOW and other games with no issues. You may need to port forward your router not Eset. What kind of issues are you having?
  10. Did you do any over the top upgrade or a full install? Whenever migrating from 1 OS to another its always best to backup your stuff and do a complete install. That means formatting your drive.
  11. So untrue. Everyone tracks you. Not much you can do about it. I use Google everything. Gmail, Drive, Docs, calendar. Don't forget that YouTube is owned by Google.
  12. Ads are on every webpage. Yahoo, MSN, etc. There are things called tracking cookies. Cookies tell companies where you have been. Just like Gmail or Outlook.com shows advertisements based on your interests. It is completely normal. If you do not want to see this stuff then do as I suggested. Read all about it here. Google Chrome as an "incognito" mode to make your browser sessions more private. I have not seen an ad in years since using Google Chrome with ad ons. Firefox either. https://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-protect-your-online-privacy.htm Eset is not the NSA either.
  13. Internet Explorer does not have any add ons or extensions like Google Chrome and Firefox. There for it is nowhere near as secure as Chrome or Firefox. Internet Explorer is the most exploited browser. Why people use it is beyond me. The person is complaining about ads. Well if you don't wanna see ads then use an ad blocker. Its that easy. Recently there have been malware attacks via ads. Remove the ads then you remove the risks.
  14. Easily fixed. Never use Internet Explorer for starters. Secondly install Google Chrome with Ad-Guard. Bye bye ads. It's that easy. Also add DoNotTrackMe.
  15. But is it necessary to be fully effective against things such as randsomware?
  16. I have used other programs with a HIPS module (Comodo/OA). By default the HIPS module in Smart Security is on auto. But to be most effective is it necessary for it to be on "interactive" mode? Will it be to chatty? Thanks.
  17. If you are always randomly plugging in your friends USB drives into your pc then you are gonna find yourself infected on a daily basis. Why are you using a VM? Is your VM infected? Was your VM protected? Did you have autorun disabled? Do you know how to immunize a USB drive? If you know how to setup and run a VM then I would assume you know enough about computers to handle a situation such as this.
  18. No haven't tried this. Computer got infected from a friends external hard drive ....sigh. I told her to scan first, then drag photos and such over to comp. Lol.............So you plugged an infected external hard drive into your machine and your blaming Eset? Thats rich. Blame your friend. Also why are you using a VM? Autorun should be disabled on any pc. If you were dragging unknown files and folders from the external hard drive directly over to your pc then that is directly your fault. Should have scanned the external drive first.
  19. Well he clearly is using a VM. Malware can and does jump from a VM to the host machine. The mystery is if the infection is on the host or the VM.
  20. Have you tried using Eset Sysrescue? hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3509 99% of newer pc's have a hidden recovery partition built in. Backup what you need to backup and then boot into your recovery partition. What is the m,ake and model of your pc? Also I see your using a VM. So were you malware testing at the time?
  21. Using XP for testing is so yesterday. If you are using XP then nothing can save you. EMET has issues with Chromes sandbox. Let's not get out of hand here. My question was about financial malware and identity protection. MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit is a very good program.
