  1. We don't want to discuss here how useful or useless such software. The user has a problem and we are here to help him. @JoeBlack40 The triangle you saw is surely from the Gamer Mode. It's nothing bad and in your case it has to say quite nothing. If you want to know more about this look at this knowledge base articles: What is Gamer mode in ESET Smart Security / ESET NOD32 Antivirus? How do I enable/disable Gamer mode in ESET Smart Security or NOD32 Antivirus?
  2. ......or the offline installer: hxxp://www.eset.com/us/download/home/detail/family/5/#offline Yes! I know you like the offline installer. But I mentioned the online installer, because that's the installer that is also used when updating through the GUI.
  3. Maybe it would also be worth to take a look at the multi-device license pack if it is available in your region in the future. Basically, like @Marcos said, you can use the live installer to upgrade your versions. It's quite comfortable and shouldn't make any issues. And it's quite the same as if you would upgrade it through the user interface.
  4. Okay, a small update, because I found one more knowledgeable article about it. Here is the short version of the text above: The upgrade from one product version to another (e.g. from 7 to 8 or 7.0.302 to 7.0.317) won't run automatically for default. You can upgrade manually from the user interface (if - and only if - it was released as a PCU). There are several reasons why a/the new version isn't released (yet) as a PCU. You can configure your ESET product so that it checks automatically for this product upgrades. If it wasn't released as a PCU, you can always download the live or offline installer from the website and upgrade manually. Related: Suggestion: Different product upgrade channels for ESET products
  5. Yes, for sure this would be the easiest solution.
  6. But this isn't good anyway. The built-in SysInspector should work too.
  7. Yes, but he only will get this notification when he manually check for a PCU update (respectively check what version he is using). Like @SweX described there is also a possibility to activate an automatic check of this in the settings. (this setting isn't activated by default) Another possibility is to go into the scheduler of ESS or NOD32. There you can also create a custom rule for this "product update check". I also want to mention that I'm not averse to activate this setting by default or at least ask the user about this setting when installing.
  8. Unfortunately it also contains PUA when downloading from the official site. (however it's a nice piece of software) This is detected by ESET as PUA. However we don't know exactly from what source he downloaded it so maybe in his case it is detected as something else.
  9. @SweX Thanks for this information. I was also surprised that there are things that haven't to do many with a firewall.
  10. More about s you can read here: What is a potentially unwanted application? There you will also see some screenshots of the messages @Marcos explained. Keep in mind that you can freely enable or disable the detection of PUA at all. If you disable the detection ESET will not block any PUA at any time. Also the ESET products have (especially when downloading) multiple protection layers. That could be a reason why some of the things you tried may not worked. If you want disable the detection of PUAs (again) respectively check your settings. Then download the file again. If this still doesn't work please reply in this topic and send the exact link to the file you tried to download. Also a screenshot or the text of the message you're seeing would be very helpful.
  11. I agree with @SweX, but could it be that you see an advertisement from Norton. I e.g. see on the page you linked ads from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Please clarify what you see exactly and tell us if you still it if you reload the page.
  12. With idm you mean the Internet Download Manager I assume. Just a basically question first: What ESS version do you use? For troubleshooting it would be nice if you could say us if the issue goes away when you disable the firewall temporarily? If not try to exclude the IDM from protocol filtering and tell us if this works if you do so. (Important: This isn't a solution for your problem, but a step for troubleshooting - Undo the change after you tested it!) And BTW: And what has this to do with "online scan"?
  13. Thanks for the test - I think ESET will appreciate it. With what firewall mode tested you it?
  14. The testing and the PDF itself I find quite good too. It's just a little confusing funding. And you could even dislike this kind of funding generally - Are they really independent if they get money from some of the tested companies?
  15. Okay, maybe the bug depends on something you don't have. Do you have a multi-device-license used for the activation of EMS?
  16. Yes, that is normal behaviour, because the last number of the version number of the ESET products determinates (only) the language you're installing. (The built is the same) See the topic "decoding version numbers" for more details.
  17. What list do you mean exactly? Do you mean the list of excluded websites from web protection? What update (please tell me the version number of the product or the VSD version number) exactly removed the websites? And are you really using the home version of NOD32? As a company there are also business solutions for you.
  18. Okay, now there is a changelog online: ESET Mobile Security for Android version 3.0.1173 has been released on Google Play and ESET.com
  19. This is more or less by design, when you have enabled the automatic switch to Gamer Mode. But you said you disabled Gamer Mode. Do you really not only disabled Gamer Mode, but the automatic switch to Gamer Mode? If so is there any difference between the primarily and the secondary monitor?
  20. Interesting test. Even quite interesting scoring they used there. But this in the FAQ (page 19)... Okay, but... Ehm...? Additionally no one knows who the "Partner vendors" are!
  21. Okay. Here are some more information: hxxp://www.kaseya.com/company/partners/technology-alliance-program But this plugin is only a new version. It was already published about one year ago: hxxp://www.kaseya.com/resources/media-mentions/en/mm-20130305-eset-now-integrated-with-kaseya
  22. @novice Wasn't your question already answered in this topic? NOD 32 program update I think there were quite good answers.
  23. Just FYI the process is svchost.exe. This is a windows process which mainly is used to run services. This services can be internal Windows services, but in your case it seems to be a non-Windows service. So you could try to narrow it down to the specific svchost.exe process (there are more than one of this) and then (with disabling e.g.) you could even narrow it down to a specific service.
