  1. Are these ports accessible for ECSP? hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN332 Have you checked a hardware firewall maybe?
  2. FYI you can adjust the firewall rule in a way it only allows the connection from one specific IP. This is maybe what you're looking for.
  3. Yes it's the final solution, because the majority of the users are not so much technical informed and would complain when ESS would ask "questions I don't know how to react". Additionally the final version of ESS 8 is already released.
  4. Yes then test it with the eicar test file. Don't care what version you use - just download one. I'd you found a false-positive please submit it to ESET. hxxp://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN141
  5. What means it's locked? Can you give a screenshot? When you already have created an account at my.eset.com then you only have to login in ESS.
  6. I had enabled GPS for a while and I didn't marked my device as stolen. But anyway EMS retrieved my GPS location. On my.eset.com nothing is shown about this, but I saw in the settings that ESET used the GPS to find out my location, but I hadn't marked my device as stolen. This only happened one time (respectively I only saw it one time). I just switched the GPS mode to power saving mode and there I saw it. EMS v 3.0.1173.0
  7. If you're running a server in a business, don't forget that there are business solutions from ESET too. hxxp://www.eset.com/int/business/
  8. Next time please open a new topic. But if you think this is a false-positive you can submit it to ESET.
  9. Yes like already posted in this topic the addon for the ESET spam protection isn't compatible with the new Thunderbird versions. BTW I would also suggest you to upgrade to v8, because it provides better protection, because of new features like an Botnet blocker. In the v8 of ESS you won't have a Thunderbird addon at all, because it's quite needless to install, because nearly nobody uses such old Thunderbird versions.
  10. Does it help to upgrade to v8? (I would also suggest this anyway, because it provides better protection.)
  11. You're welcome! Yeah, well said! Yes! https://forum.eset.com/topic/3563-dtl-antivirus-protection-report-jul-sep-2014/
  12. But you should get an popup when a treat is detected and it should show under "action: deleted - copied to quarantine" or something similar. Maybe try it with the eicar testfile and tell us (or make screenshots of) what you see.
  13. Great news! ESET Smart Security 8 wins the performance test from AV Comparatives. This is the test from the october 2014. Impact: 1.2 points (lower is better) Score: 188.8 points (higher is better) Full test report: hxxp://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/avc_per_201410_en.pdf Ultimately a test that confirms the experiences of many ESET users. Enjoy safer technology (without slowdown)!
  14. FYI some hotfixes are not automatically distributed by Windows update, but are good to install when you have issues. But I don't know how it is with these hotfixes, but I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to check whether you have installed them or not.
  15. And here is the (I hope) complete changelog of the version 7.0.325: Changelog for 7.0.325.x
  16. Did you really tried it and the firewall module was updated to 1248? You can check the version of the modules in the "about-window".
  17. @hqsec Good idea. @SweX Good arguments. However it would have been more useful if you would had posted this in the separate topic. But I think the option is quite hidden, so already only the users who want get it ASAP find this option. But it should be quite simple to implement and yes - maybe it's for the "lazy ones"...
  18. At first the protocol ssl doesn't exists. Maybe you mean https? And https://tiles.services.mozilla.com/ is accessible for me (Firefox 33.1; ESS) when I enter it manually in the browser. And what message do you get exactly? Does NOD32 says there would be malware on it? BTW Based on the blocked address I would say that this are the recently introduced ads on the new tap page from Mozilla.
  19. A great new and funny promotion from ESET UK has started. Check it out! And you can win an extended trail and even a free full version for one year! Enjoy safer technology!
  20. No, he is saying that: (marked by me) Also have a look at this: What is the difference between a Virus Signature Database update and a Program Component Update (PCU)?
  21. No I don't think it's a good idea to split this, but for troubleshooting you of course can deactivate the automatic VSD update. (but of course only for a short time) About this I'd like to answer myself: At first it's quite useful to read this kb article: What is the difference between a Virus Signature Database update and a Program Component Update (PCU)? Secondly here is the answer to my question: All settings you can see in the tab "Update mode" there are about PCUs. These are - in contrast to the module updates which are downloaded with the VSD updates - the "upgrades" you can download from the ESET website or if you click on the button "Check for updates" below "Product update": However you can also activate the option that ESET automatically checks for this updates too. (More information in this post) So what happens when you click on the button or the task for the automatic update runs? This is controlled by the setting you choose. (see screenshot above) By default you'll be asked when the update is available and you can download and install it with a few clicks. But you can also set the setting to not notify you or to automatically download and install the PCU. (without a notification to you before) See also: Suggestion: Different product upgrade channels for ESET products
