  1. It's been said numerous times that Insider preview builds are not supported. In the future, we plan to provide limited support for such builds. and what do you suggest ??? The recommendation is that you stop using the fast ring until ESET announce on the forum that they have implemented limited support for the HIPS so that it will work for users that are using the fast ring as well. (:
  2. Emsisoft, ESET, Webroot, Symantec, Malwarebytes plus many more vendors does not provide a free version with realtime protection. IMO there is enough free AVs on the market as it is, we really don't need yet another free AV. So if you don't want to pay then you have plenty of options available, some total crapp but also a few nice free AVs. Many of them might give you a present if you don't look out during install, or change your browsers default search engine or a toolbar or something even worse, while others may urge you do upgrade to their paid solution once in a while via ads in the gui in order to support the vendor and future development of the products. But considering it's free I assume most people is fine with that. If "new school" = I expect it to be free, then Yes I hope they will stay old school forever. Personally, I don't want ESET to offer a free version, instead I want them to keep producing the high quality software that they do today. And the saying "people try the free version - and if they like the free version they migrate over to the paid version ", it doesn't really work like that at all. Take Avast for example, the majority stays with Avast Free and does not move over to Avast paid. And that goes for most vendors that offer a free version with enough features. If the software is of high quality and works better than most products then people are willing to pay because of that. But if it is worth to buy an AV with all these free AV's available on the market - that must be up to each person to decide. But it's not only about comparing product features and say "this Free AV and this Paid AV have the exact same features" let's not forget that they are developed by different companies so the quality of the software itself may not be the same only because the features look the same/similar on paper. Not to mention how the software runs on our system. But you should be able to find nice discount deals for most "paid for AVs" made by vendors that does not have a free version if you search around online, if you're willing to pay a few $$$ for the product at least. Unless the Free AV is free to 100% meaning no-strings-attached what so ever, and clean from exciting offers during the install or uninstall process, and no secret data collecting operation going on in the background, then I agree with the ESET CEO.... * hxxp://virusradar.com/en/glossary/pua hxxp://virusradar.com/en/glossary/adware
  3. Nope, they are downloaded in shorter intervals as every minute matters when speaking about response to newly emerging threats. RRM has no relation to these stream updates. Right, that's what I thought, but it's good to know for certain and also have a reference when people ask questions @aranud, someone else must answer your question cause I don't understand what your screenshot is showing. The "stream updates" is downloaded to your computer in short intervals as they are pushed out, independently from the VSD updates.
  4. I have seen them during testing. The notification will say "blocked object" or "suspicious object blocked" IIRC - and since it is a "cloud block" it won't have a threat name connected to it yet. You should note that the file reputation (and colors, red, orange and green) you see in the LiveGrid window in the GUI for example is NOT used for live detections. There was a bug which was fixed around 6-12 months ago via a module update where some "bad" files was marked green/known safe, it mostly affected new fresh samples, and these screenshots was taken before this bug was resolved. I posted this last year, maybe it's close to what you have in mind: https://forum.eset.com/topic/51-future-changes-to-eset-smart-security/?p=17761 @Marcos, to clarify for readers. If I understand right, these so called "stream updates" are delivered during the hourly VSD update checks even if no new VSD is downloaded at that time ? Or are they be pushed out independently of the hourly VSD update check ? Does the RRM (Rapid Response Module) play a role here ?
  5. You maybe mean v8? Because v7 was released at once as far as I know. Only v8 was just released worldwide later on. At the specific language release this there was also an announcement, but I can imagine that they now want to prevent complaints from users who are asking when it will be available in their language... So maybe you're right. I included a quote by our friend Aryeh in this post here which he posted as a reply to users asking about the English version of V7 right after wave 1 was released to the public: https://forum.eset.com/topic/5036-eset-smart-security-and-eset-nod32-antivirus-9-beta-available/?p=33673 One difference between the V7, V8 and V9 release is that the English version was included in wave 1 with the V8 release, but not with the V7 or V9 release.
  6. Wonderful! Weeeeety don't leave the ship yet!
  7. I am not sure. But I believe they usually create an official "release thread" when they release V9 worldwide, and not when they release it to a few selected local markets. Not sure how they did it when they released V7 that was also first released on a few local markets just like V9 hmmm
  8. Haha interesting experiment. Personally, I think I would be able to understand Angela Merkel better than Richard Marko, if we were to have a conversation I mean. hxxp://www.eset.com/de/ hxxp://www.eset.com/sk/ I am even more sure German is easier to understand for me after comparing the two languages on the ESET sites above. Let us know how it goes with the Slovak version, if you go for it. Ja ja sehr gut, stackz
  9. SweX, Thanks for the reminder about the v7 release. I had forgotten about how it went, wish that was the only thing I couldn't remember. I'm content with how the beta is running but I still look forward to the final so I can try to get some of the rules I added straightened away. Be patient everyone. I would rather have a top performing program then one that wasn't ready for prime time and led to constant problems or worse yet security issues. Take your time Eset, get it right. The point is, they already did get it right, if the final is available in other languages, it means they did get it right. Why torture the rest of the world I don't understand! Not fair! I wanna speak to the CEO right now! Perhaps you should wait to speak with the Chief Executive Officer until you are more calm, not that I think he can help you since this and similar decisions concerning the product release schedule are most likely made by someone else - not the CEO.
  10. Before everyone goes bananas over no English version release in the first "wave". I note that the situation we have now with the V9 final release is similar to the V7 final release in the sense that the English version will be released a little bit later. So I'll take the opportunity to quote what our good friend Aryeh said when the final version of V7 was released to the public.....
  11. mmm the steak can be Medium well (cuit) or Well done (bien cuit). But all software should be Well done (bien cuit). Because we don't want any pink in the center/unfinished parts in the software. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperature_%28meat%29
  12. Hi mantra, The following information about LiveGrid does at least apply to V8 and V9..... Yes, LiveGrid is a "cloud service" so in order to take full advantage of LiveGrid and for data to be sent between your computer and LiveGrid one need to be connected to the internet. And have LiveGrid enabled in the product of course.
  13. The term "SOON" is ambiguous. Everything has a release date, from softwares to hardwares. Is ESET above everyone and everything, that it has exception, or are the people working have no idea when it'll be ready for release? They don't give out exact release date to the public, never have, and most likely never will - for obvious reasons. "Is ESET above everyone and everything" Ehhh...You could say yes, because ESET is the developer of the product and you are "only" a user, they of course know a lot of stuff about their products that you will never know, including future release dates, and future product features. What ESET is saying using one word "soon" could be something like..... "maybe next week it depends if its ready or not...if its not ready then you would need to wait a while longer because we can't under any circumstances release an unfinished product to our users and put our users and company reputation at risk, in other words, it will be released soon" "or are the people working have no idea when it'll be ready for release?" Not sure if you're joking. They have said soon several times on this forum already, take it or leave it. You are talking about a product that is being developed every day - current status "beta". Obstacles can popup during development when you least expect it which could result in that the release date is changed again. Let's say that ESET set Sep 28 as the release day and told the public all about it a few weeks in advance, but the product was not ready to be released today - should they release it anyway (like they promised) or what are you saying ? It is not about knowing exactly "when it'll be ready for release?" - but release it when its ready.
  14. Hello mantra, Which Win10 build are you using ?..... "The latest supported build of Windows 10 is 10240. If you opted for so-called fast-ring updates, these are not currently supported. In the future, we plan to support them at least with limited HIPS functionality."
  15. Nice. Will be interesting to see how this turns out once they integrate it into the products.

  17. hxxp://virusradar.com/en/update/info/ But we also get assistance from LiveGrid all the time.....
  18. Mmm it seems like SM03 is not satisfied with that answer ....https://forum.eset.com/topic/5860-nod32-just-updated-to-v901410/?p=32581 Breaking News: This just in, a secret source at ESET told CNN that ESET is planning to release V9 of their popular security products soon, yes, soon is what they said. Stay tuned for more on this and other breaking news from the world's news leader. You're watching CNN.
  19. Ahh right, I looked for the article but couldn't find it.
  20. Thank you my friend. Hmmm...this is funny. I went to hxxp://www.eset.com/us/ directly after I read your post on Sep 16 and what I saw then was the design they've had for a few years. Now when I checked eset.com/us after you posted some screenshots I see this........ Not sure why I saw the old layout Sep 16 if the new one went live on Aug 31. hxxp://www.eset.com/us/resources/content-browser-detail/welcome-to-your-new-website/ Anyhow, it does look nice, you could almost think that it is the same team that have designed the new GUI in ESS/NOD32 V9 and Endpoint that have designed the new U.S. website.
  21. Are you really talking about eset.com/us or some other site ? As that one looks the same to me as it has for a good while. I thought maybe I can't get to the new site as I am being redirected to my local ESET website. Maybe one of you could post a screnshot of the new US website ?
  22. Yes I understand. I don't think there will be an RC build, at least it doesn't sound like it based on the information ESET is posting on the forum. To clarify, the sentence about asking and wondering about possible release dates wasn't pointed at you in particular but everyone that has already asked (which is several users) and users that hasn't asked yet.
  23. I beta test V9 on XP SP3, as I figure someone has to do some beta testing on that OS as well since ESET still support it until 2017. But I won't say with XP forever, and neither will ESET and many other software companies/developers. It doesn't matter how great you or anyone else think XP still is, what fun is using an OS when less and less softwares stays compatible with it, let alone being developed for it. Not to mention the security issue, and what's already been said about that XP is not a young boy anymore but an 14yr old pensioner. I am happy I don't have the lifespan of a digital product - I would have been EOL:ed a long time ago. If you want to use ESET and Windows after 2017 then upgrade to Win7 or later.
  24. I believe the test methodology is referred to as "real-world" in the sense that they try to "mimic" (or how to put it) a real world usage situation, IIRC. But mimic a real world situation to 100% is impossible, though I think they do a fairly good job trying to make that happen. Yeah, wasn't it Eugene Kaspersky that wrote about it, or was it someone else? I don't remember - quite a long time has past since I read about that.
