Also verify that your current Eset version is 16.2.13. If not, force an Eset product update.

There was an issue with the original 16.2 release in regards to handling inbound local subnet network traffic.

    Current version is 16.2.13.0

Here are some other things I tried on Computer A:

    1. Reset to Defaults (Advanced Setup -> Default)

    2.  Set local network connection from Private to Public than to Private again.

    2. Uninstalled ESET Internet Security, restarted, downloaded fresh copy of EIS, installed, updated, restarted

I still have this issue where all local devices are being blocked on that computer for Plex.

Next, I installed Plex server on another computer on my network, Computer B.  Computer B also has ESET Internet Security installed.   I then tried to access Plex on Computer B from both my phone and my laptop (both on the same network).     ESET is blocking those devices on that Computer B also.     So this rules out a computer specific issue.      It seems like my only option is to create Firewall rules to allow 'Trusted' devices to access the Plex server computer.     Is there anything else I should look at?

@Marcos - I dont feel comfortable uploading logs to a public forum.   Is there another support channel that can take a look at them?

Review my comment with suggested mitigation at the end of this thread: https://forum.eset.com/topic/37455-incoming-connections-on-private-trusted-network-profile-are-blocked/ . It appears to have worked for this poster.

Removing the network connection didn't  work.   What did work is I created a Firewall rule called "Allow communication for Trusted Zone".     See screenshot.

Any negatives in doing this if I trust all devices on my local network?     I'm still not sure what changed since the update, I never had this issue in the 6+ years using Eset Internet Security (Smart Security).

One thing you could try is deleting your existing Eset Ethernet network connection. Upon exit from that Eset GUI section, Eset will create a new network connection. It is possible the existing network connection settings got hosed in the upgrade process.

Upon creation of the new network connection, verify that its profile shows as Private for the Eset generated connection.

Thanks, Ill give this a try.   When you say delete, the only option I see is "Forget" under 'Network Connections' and clicking the 3 dots next to 'My Network' local domain.   Does 'Forget' do they same thing?

Do you have any custom firewall rules created? In automatic mode, non-initiated inbound communication requires a permissive rule to be created.

    Please carry on as follows:

    1. Enable advanced logging under Help and support -> Technical support
    2. Reproduce the issue
    3. Stop logging
    4. Collect logs with ESET Log Collector and upload the generated archive here.

The only custom firewall rules that I created is using 'Resolve Blocked Communications' section to unblock these local devices.   You say " In automatic mode, non-initiated inbound communication requires a permissive rule to be created."   Ive been using ESET Smart Security for about 6 years now and I have never had to create any rules for my local network devices.    Did anything change recently with ESET?

  5. This started about a month ago, after an update.   ESET started blocking computers on my local network.  I have a Plex server running on Computer A and after an update, ESET started to block my other computers and devices (phones and tablets) that are on my local network.   Nothing changed except for the ESET update.     Before this update, I did not have this issue.    Now whenever I have a new device (or device that has not accessed Computer A Plex server),  I have to open ESET on Computer A,  Setup  -> Resolve Blocked Communications -> Remote devices.   I then have to unblock the device.   Why is ESET considering devices on my local network "remote devices" ?

  6. After the most recent ESET Internet Security update, I started receiving a popup and warning stating "The ESET LiveGrid servers cannot be reached.   This could be due to an outage or a problem with your network connection.  Allow access to ESET LiveGrid servers on firewall."   I did the test at this help page, ESET detected the file.    After a period of time, the LiveGrid message would go away.  Eventually it comes back.    This happen earlier this year after update but resolved itself.

Is this a known issue with this update?

@demonlight can you reproduce it lik Marcos asked on post 2? It would be very helpfull to see the warnings...

Sorry for not posting back, I haven't had many popups within the past week.   I assumed it was related to the various links posted earlier regarding rejected certificates in Chrome.   If I receive anymore popup warnings regarding certificates, Ill post them.

  8. I was browsing ESET website and I noticed that Smart Security is no longer a product and is being replaced by Internet Security.   The Internet Security webpage states you can upgrade for free.   I have a couple of questions.

    1.  I recently purchased a 3 pack of licenses from Newegg for Smart Security.  My current license expires early Feb.  If I activate the new license now, will it extend my current license or should I wait until my current license expires?

    2.  Since the upgrade to Internet Security is free, will this Smart Security license still be valid?

    3.  Do I need to uninstall Smart Security first before installing Internet Security OR will the install take care of this and transfer my license?

  9. I am having this issue with my laptop (my desktop works fine) using ESET Smart Security 2016.   I first tried to reinstall ESET, that didnt help.  I then found this thread.  I was able to install the INF file from post #8, but I wasnt able to enable ESET via the network adapter.

    1.  Post #8 states "temporarily disable Self-defense and restart the computer"   What is Self-Defense?  I do not see any such option via ESET Smart Security.

    2.  Any ideas why I am getting the access denied message when trying to enable ESET via the network adapter?

Self-defense setting is in the HIPS section.

Thanks.   After following the instructions in post #8, this did not solve my problem.  With Self-Defense disabled however, I was able to do the steps in post #13 successfully.

Any ideas why this issue happens?  I have a 3 pack license and (2) desktops installed fine but my laptop did not.

  11. Make sure no IP address from the TZ is listed in the temporary IP address blacklist (Setup -> Network -> View temporary IP address blacklist). If that's not the case, continue as follows:

    - enable logging of blocked connections in the IDS setup

    - clear the firewall log

    - reproduce the problem

    - disable logging

    - post your firewall log records here.

Hello. I was out of town.  I tried out your suggestion and indeed some of my LAN IP addresses are showing up in the log, including the specific one I am trying to connect to.  I have several devices on my home LAN, 6 to be exact.  I want all of these to be able to access my desktop computer.

What baffles me is that I never had this problem until installing ESET SS.   ESET should be smart enough to know that my home LAN IP addresses are "safe" and in my trusted zone.

Maybe something didnt get configured right when I installed?   How can I resolve this?

    Thank you.
  12. I have a couple of services running on my desktop computer, which I can access via the web browser on my local network.  With the firewall enabled, I am not able to access the web interface from my other computers on the network.  I know I can use "Interactive mode" but I dont want to have to set every rule.  I never had this issue with the Windows Firewall.   How can I add my local network computers to my "Trusted Zone" so they can access everything?

  13. I bought a 3 packs of Smart Security.   On another forum, some users posted that they would use the 3 pack on a single computer for the next 3 years.   When I activated my laptop with the activation code, I received an email with a user/pass.  The email also stated the license expires 1/3/2015.    Does this mean that all (3) licenses expire on 1/3/2015?

  14. Good evening demonlight.

The first scan is suppose to take longer then consecutive scan.

It uses a technology called Smart Optimization.

It checks every single file on your computer on the first scan, this can take 1-5 hours +

The next time it scans, it will only be scanning files that have changed since the last scan, thus making the scan times increasingly faster.

By changed, i would have to elaborate a lot as what i mean by change is very broad. Hope you get the jist though. :)

This thread should help you understand the percentage your watching for your scan :

Thanks for your interest and i assure you, the AV you have now is good and is still a very fast and lightweight AV. You will notice in the coming days :)

What AV did you come from ? Just curious ? May have a few words on it.

    Thanks !

Thanks for the detailed response.   As stated in my first post, I was using MS Security Essentials.  After reading several reports of it becoming weak AV, I decided to come back to ESET.
