  1. Hi, We noticed same problems with Symantec/Norton products. They are connected with user rights on Registry (Symantec messes with them too), and their regular uninstaller does not turn this back in regular status :-( So only (regular) solution for problems with Symantec is: use their uninstaller. Sorry to any ex Symantec user -> bad luck ...
  2. Hi, This seems to be long time known problem with ESET. We are calling it "ESET BIOS batery problem", because it usualy happens when BIOS batery is empty. Sometime it also happens when user changes System date to some old date (remember bookkeepers ). Once I even saw this when some adware/spyware changed System date Last year mr. Gorecky wrote here on forum good workaraound solution about it, hope it can help someone else. We hope that ESET product guys are going to solve this one day...
  3. There is just one tiny bit of information you may consider about this topic: Long time ago malware writers were hoby guys/girls who were writting malware on their free time. So peaks (maximum numbers of new malware) were during non-working hours, on weekend and holildays. Today malware programs are written by corporate teams (either mafia types, or governemt types - all the same ) and malware frequency just shows this trend.
  4. Hi Barkupatree2002, For me, this your message clearly shows that ESET is not connected to your fan sppeding and increased noise. Memory usage is not source of heat, and does not increase speed of your computer fan. If you open let's say IE or Firefox or Chrome and open more than one page, you'll see lot of used memory ... Only processes using more PCU are source of greater heating of your processor... So, if you want to find source of your "problem" - monitor your PC (Use Taks Manager, Process Explorer, ProcMon, or something simmilar) or log your PC activity and try to find process or service that is source of this activiy.
  5. Hallo truonglao12a4, You should first check from wich source your workstations are updating virus database. This could be done with ERA. Select computer -> right click -> Properties, select Configuration tab and there View configuration That should open ESET Configuration Editor, there you need to find Update module -> Profile -> Settings -> Update Server (see what value stand under this) Alternativly you can check on (at least one) Endpoint what update source is written there. Open main window, press F5, select Update and Pudate again and see what is written under Update source.. Then it's simply just up to you to see what is happening with this particular point - if it's your internal mirror, then see that ERA has new username/password and .lic file (find how to change your .lic file); - If they are updating directly from ESET, see that ESET on workstation has new username and password.   6. Hello Barkupatree2002, There are many ways to see what is source of high CPU usage on your computer. I'm here going to mention just couple of them: When you hear your fans running faster and louder, check next: a) start Task Manager, where you should set it to "show processes from all users" and sort it by CPU (usage) b) Use Sysinternals tool called Process Explorer (see: hxxp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) - similar to Task Manager, but much better (as sysadmin I can't live witouth it) c) Any other tool to see all active processes on your computer (but don't use something unknown...) In any of this tools you could see what process is using so much of CPU of your computer You can also use SysInternals Autoruns to see all about what is active on your computer (also nice tool from Sysinternals). Only if you see anything that is connected with ESET (ekrnl or egui exe files) and high CPU usage, start playing with ESET - disable some ESET features and monitor CPU usage... When you made all monitoring and tests, you are going to know what is source of this. Kind regards
  7. Hello Barkupatree2002, ESET programs are recognized for low system footprint, so this your post sound questionable. There may be lot of reasons for higher system load, but with informations availiable in your text it's impossible to tell what is happening on your computer. If you wish some answer, at least give us some informations about your computer: - Processor (type, speed, ...) - RAM (Memory) - Disk space / availiable disk space on system partition - Operating system (don't just write Windows, let us know exact version of Windows, is it 32-bit or 64-bit and does it have all necessary service packs and updates - see Windows Update) - How many active processes you see in Task manager, and does any of them keep higher percentage of CPU (processor) Kind regards, Podrska2NORT
  8. (1) By default, during instalation of ESET Remote Administrator, in ERA are two accounts - "Administrator" and Read-Only". You can see them in ERA (Open Tools -> User Manager). There you can see all permisions for these templates, and you can check did you apply proper permisions for your read-only account. Please check again - did you put ALL appropriate permissions for your read-only account(s) (2) Also - have you followed ERA USer manual instructions (see part 3: Working with ERA Console, page 21)? ******************** (In order for the Windows/Domain authentication to work properly ERAS needs to be installed under the Windows/Domain account with sufficient rights. You must also enable this feature in Tools > Server Options… > Advanced tab > Edit Advanced Settings… > ESET Remote Administrator > ERA Server > Setup > Security: Allow Windows/Domain authentication - Enables/disables Windows/Domain authentication. ) ********************
  9. I just tested one old generic write protected USB drive on my PC - and everything works as expected. Computer is Win7 64 bit, 4 core processor with 4GB RAM with typical settings and ESET Smart Security 7.0.302.26 (latest). When I insert write-protected USB in PC, ESS ask for action (default ESS settings), when I select "scan" - it scans this USB. Only thing - it report that is unable to clean/delete malware sample (EICAR test file), but this is expected. Is maybe there something special with your USB?

Yesterday, we had similar case: User with Windows 8 (not Windows 8.1!) tried to install ESET Smart Security (ESS) 7 from offline installer file (hxxp://download.eset.com/download/win/ess/ess_nt64_hrv.msi). Every time he tried, install was interrupted and he only got message: "There is problem with this installer package. A dll required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personell or package vendor". It was fresh install of Win 8. There was no other AV, there was nothing left from earlier installations of ESS, every service was there (like BFE ), ... We tried different approach - we downloaded ESET Online installer, and with this piece of software we managed to install ESS without glitch :-) Maybe our experience could help somebody.
