  1. Hi, I want to add Firefox or Google Chrome to Sysrescue to see if I can get on the internet just to see if I have an internet connection. I have searched the internet to learn how to add "External Apps," and the only page I found is from this forum where aschlemm started a topic named "ESET SS 6 SysRescue External Apps." It's nice that Sysrescue has this option, but there are no instruction on how to do it. Eset Moderators, What good is it to have an option to install "External Apps" if there are no instructions on how to do it? Any help with this would be very appreciated. Thanks, Jes
  2. I don't know if this post is a response to what I wrote, but Matousec, did in fact try to get $2000 from Agnitum for Matousec's test results or something to that effect. I remember reading it. It was sent to all of Agnitum's customers. Jes
  3. I just noticed "Forum Feeback" and it states "PLEASE do not post product support-related questions in this topic." I think I need to delete the above post, but don't see how I can.
  4. Hi, All of my desktop computer are home made by buying the parts and putting them together because I can upgrade them much easier. I am constantly updating my computers like buying a new motherboard for my main computer, taking the replaced motherboard and installing it in my Work computer and taking that motherboard and installing it in my Home Theater computer. I had to reinstall the operating systems on all of them which meant I had to uninstall ESS and reinstall it on all of my computers. Before that I purchase three SSDs and installed them on my main computer and my Work dual boot computer which at the time had Vista and XP. Whenever I install an operating system, the first thing I install is ESS. I didn't like the performance with Vista or XP. XP didn't like my AHCI drivers and used it's own driver and I was unable to use the toolbox that came with my SSDs to trim the the hard drive in XP. I scrapped both operating systems and took Windows 7 from my home theater computer and installed it on the dual boot with XP on a mechanical hard drive and reinstalled the operating systems again and had to reinstall ESS again. A month went by and I put the SSD that wouldn't work for XP in my Home Theater Computer and purchased another Windows 7 and installed it on my Home Theater computer. Sometimes I just pull a hard drive out and don't bother to uninstall ESS. As you can see, I am constantly reinstalling ESS and have never had a problem so far. In about a year from now I will be building a new computer and will be playing musical computers again. Due to the fact that I'm always doing this, at which time would there be a problem reinstalling ESS? Thanks, Jes
  5. Just here to emphasize what you have written. Eset has to be installed first so Outpost Firewall can recognize it. Jes
  6. Hi, The actual error message is "virus signature database ended with with an error." I don't know if posting this is appropriate because I'm working on this problem with Customer Support. I hope someone will let me know if it is or isn't. I have three desktops and one laptop with Windows 7. The three desktops have Windows 7 Pro (one desktop is a dual boot with Windows 7 and XP) and the laptop has Window 7 Home Premium. I can make Sysrescue USB and CD disks on all of them including XP, and it only works on one computer. Customer Service has asked to send them results of "ipconfig" and "tracert update.eset.com" and I'm waiting for them to respond. Customer Support wrote that if "tracert update.eset.com" is okay they will escalate it. I also know about the idiotic problem with removing USB drives with Visa and Windows 7 that Microsoft has never repaired with an Update. With Vista and Windows 7, when you click on the icon to remove the USB drive, the USB isn't actually disabled, although, I have seen a new HP computer with Windows 7 that does work correctly. The registry has to be edited to fix this problem on every Vista and Windows 7 purchased disk after installing the operating system. You can google "DisableOnSoftRemove" and click on the Microsoft Knowledge Base article to get instructions on how to edit the registry that fixes the USB issue. I have done that to all of my computers including the Laptop, so I know it's safe to remove USB drives because the lights go out and it's actually safe to remove them so I know I'm not damaging them when I remove them. Customer support is very good. I called them about a computer not owned by me that I was working on that had an MBR infection. They took the computer over and removed it with a bunch of tools. They also gave me links to all of the tools they were using except one because it was licensed. The reason I realized Sysrescue wasn't updating is because I was working on a computer that had the ICE FBI infection and Sysrescue wouldn't update. While corresponding with Customer Support, I was asked if I need help repairing the computer even though they knew it didn't belong to me. Has anyone had this problem and figured out what is wrong? Jes
  7. Hi Bjourne, I had Eset NOD32 and Outpost Firewall Pro and experienced slow boot up a year ago. Both Eset and Outpost were set to exclude each other, but that didn't help. I finally got fed up and purchased four licenses for ESS even though I have four lifetime licenses for Outpost Firewall Pro and three lifetime licenses for Outpost Security Suite, but chose ESS because Eset has the better track record. I know that you have to install Eset first so that Outpost will recognize it and give you the choice to install Web Control and the Malware Scanner. I never liked Web Control so I didn't install it, but I installed the Malware Scanner and set it up as "On Demand." I would like to convert ESS to NOD32 if possible and try Outpost to see if it will work because NOD32 would be cheaper than ESS, but would need assistance in setting up both of them to prevent fighting and not have a slow boot time. Jes
  8. Thanks, Stackz, I went back to hxxp://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ and looked more closely and didn't click on the green download bar. I went to the bottom of the page and clicked on Hirens.BootCD.15.2.zip and had no problem downloading it as far as a warning about the mirror site I was downloading from. I did however, get two warning from ESS that the file itself had potentially malicious files in it. I clicked on continue because I know that just having a file sitting on my hard drive won't infect my computer. I noticed that hxxp://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ has information about why anti-virus programs will warn you about possible malicious programs contained in the Zip file. I went to the FAQ and found this: The files downloaded from our website are NOT edited, they are the original files. The most common files we are getting reports are “HBCDMenu.exe, HBCDCustomizer.exe, R-Kill.com, konboot.gz”. Please note, they do NOT contain a virus. If you are getting a virus warning, that is a false positive. Please report the file as a false positive via your antivirus software. During that time you should disable your antivirus or add the related file to your antivirus software’s exceptions list for a problem free use. I plan on completely extracting the file and scanning it. Jes
  9. Hi SweX, Thanks. I am very careful when I download software. I should have said Eset didn't like the website, but there were no warnings when I downloaded the Bit Torrent file. It's been securely deleted. I don't understand. If Hiren's BootCD is so good, why is it so hard to safely download it? Jes
  10. When I was using Agnitum's Outpost Firewall Pro along with Eset NOD 32, Matousec ran a test that they made up and tried to blackmail Agnitum into paying for the test results or something to that effect. I remember reading the notice that Agnitum sent out to it's customers. Jes
  11. Hi Araka, When you say "Peer to Peer," do you mean Bit Torrent? That sounds scary. Eset didn't like the Bit Torrent site, but I was able to download Bit Torrent.exe and scanned it. I'm not going to execute until I hear from someone to let me know it's okay. I have Kaspersky TDSS Killer along with the Kaspersky rescue disk. I believe I have at least moderate experience with computers, networking, storage, security, etc... as I have been building my own computers since the mid 1990s. Family and friends have been bringing their computers to me to repair for years. I'm not formally trained and learn as I go. The main reason I'm here is because of the last computer I worked on. It was infected with the ICE FBI worm. It was completely locked up except the command prompt. Someone brought another computer that had the same thing and I repaired the MBR with Partition Commander from Avanquest which I believe used to be Partition Magic, and the operation system was toast. That's usually the case with me when a computer is locked up and won't boot to the operating system. I delete the partition, recreate it, format it, and then install the operating system. I also pull the hard drive out, and connect it to my work computer using a Hard Drive to USB adapter to back up the data. I can repair computers that will boot to the operating system by repairing the MBR and then using sfc /scannow to make sure the system files are okay. I then install a trial version of Eset Smart Security plus Malwarebytes and scan it with them. I would like to download Hiren's BootCD safely though, and so far haven't been able to. Jes
  12. I have seen many people that use have Hiren's BootCD and saw a Youtube video in which an MBR infection was removed using Kaspersky TDSS Killer to check for one and booting up with Hiren's to remove. It did look like all they did was repair the MBR though. I tried to download it and they want my credit card information and other person information that I will not disclose to a web site that I don't trust. Eset won't allow me to download at other web sites. How does anyone safely download this? Can Hiren's BootCD be trusted? Thanks, Jes
  13. Hi cjshaker, I had the same problem a while back. I was unable to make a Sysrescue disk on one of my computers too, but I was able to make one on another so I didn't worry about. That made me think it was computer related. I can't remember what computer it was because I have since replaced the computer that wouldn't make the disk at least twice. I'm always either updating or building new computers and giving the ones that I don't want anymore away. I would contact customer service as they are very good at responding to problems. They have even called me on the phone to help me. Jes
  14. Hi aschlemm, I'm new here and thank you for figuring this out. Could you post your solution for adding other apps to the Sysrescue disk? I'm sure it would be appreciated by others on this forum. It could be that no one else on this forum knew how to do it. I can't think of any other reason why no one responded to you question. Thanks, Jes
  15. Hirens's Hi TGW, I saw a Youtube video in which they show how to remove an MBR infection and used Kaspersky TDSS Killer detect to the MBR virus and the Hirens's Boot CD to remove it. It looked to me that Hirens's only repaired the MBR though. I have Partition Commander from Avanquest and it will repair the MBR. Where did you download it? I went to the Hirens's Boot CD web site and tried, but they want you to download a download manager and Eset Smart Security Ver. 7 didn't like that and wanted me to disconnect, so I didn't download it. I don't like download managers. Thanks, Jes
  16. Hi everyone, I have been using Eset products for many years and think they're among the best Anti-Virus, Security Suites out there. I began using a computer in 1987 to draw schematics and then went to integrated schematic and PC board design software. My first two computers were purchased at a place that built computers out of standard parts, a 386 and a 486 in the early to mid 1990s, and from then on, I bought the parts and built my own. I basically hate name brand computers because they use nonstandard parts, especially Dell. The last name brand computer I worked on was a HP and it needed a new motherboard because there was an USB error indicating there was a surge. When I went to HP to see how much a new motherboard cost, I was shocked. They wanted $215 for it. I was able to research and found a motherboard for $60 but didn't have a 25 pos. Parallel port. Of course the case wouldn't allow me to replace the I/O shield either. I currently use three desktops and have a laptop that collects dust. Family and friends bring their computers to me to fix. Many of the computers are infected, some are dead and I recap them to bring them back to life, install larger hard drives and whatever else I can do. I'm self taught and learn as I go. I think I'm pretty good at repairing them, but realize the more I know about them, the more I need to learn more. I'm here because I want to learn more Thanks,. Jes
  17. My step daughter's computer was infected by ICE Cyber Crime Center a few days ago. Her computer was just about completely locked up, couldn't restore it, or use safe mode. All I could get was a command prompt. I then decided to delete the partition, recreate it, and restore it using the restore DVDs that I made when she got it. Before I did that, I used a partition program, "Partition Commander," to repair the Master Boot Record and that unlocked the computer. When the computer booted up, there was a system file missing, so I ran sfc /scannow and many system files were either missing or corrupted. It's a good thing I made the recovery disks or she would have had to purchase Windows 7. There was a 10GB partition on the hard drive and I'm assuming it was for recovering the computer, but I didn't trust it. Jes
