Basically potentially unwanted applications are never false positivies since they exactly detect applications that had been carefully already analyzed by ESET and it turned out they met criteria for PUA detection.
And are they harmful? At least ones from my report?
I downloaded Divx from: https://www.divx.com/
K-Lite Codec Pack from: https://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
Handbrake from: https://handbrake.fr/
And .net SDK from: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/5.0
These should be official sources.
This is what was detected:
DotSetupSDK[1].dll a variant of MSIL/DotSetupIo.B potentially unwanted application cleaned by deleting
dxa7C56.tmp a variant of Win32/DivX.C potentially unwanted application cleaned by deleting
dxa7D33.tmp a variant of MSIL/DotSetupIo.B potentially unwanted application cleaned by deleting

Hello, I use Avast, roguekiller, malwarebytes, and mbar for virus detection, none of other programs detected anything, but Eset Online Scanner did. Note that I use EOS because I find it superior to classic Eset program (had better experience with detecting things).
Anyways, I scanned my computer yesterday and it detected nothing. Today I messed with magix vegas, it had problems playing certain videos, so I tried installing K-Lite codec pack from codecguide.com ,installed the standard version. I also installed Handbrake for video conversion. I uninstalled both. I downloaded .net framework (dotnet SDK) from official website and Divx from official website, but both installers I only launched, not installed anything. So, if Eset detects anything, it must be from either of those programs, my suspicion is K-Lite codec pack and that detection is only false positive. From the looks of it, the first PUP is .net framework thingy, other two maybe K-Lite codec pack IMO. I tend to visit only safe websites and download stuff also from safe and official websites (and not other sources).
Is this false positive please? I am attaching report from EOS for analysis. Thank you. Have a nice day.

Unfortunately there have been no other cases of the issue that you reported. Please contact your local ESET customer care and raise a support ticket.
Please remember that ESET Online Scanner cannot protect you from threats and only security products that you install can ensure maximum protection. It's possible that installing an ESET security product would find malware that the Online scanner cannot.
Yes, I consider Eset to be top notch, which is why I use it.
While eset internet security is able to scan PC in normal mode it is however unable to do it in safe mode, Eset Online Scanner is able to do that in safe mode as well. They support each other.
What do you mean by local eset customer care?
How do I please do that? Thanks

So, no answers, replies or help? There is no solution and eset online scanner is broken forever and cannot be fixed?
It has been 5 days, I uploaded the files, they were downloaded and I received no further help.
-
So, anything new please?

Thank you very much for the files, they helped a lot.
Please erase the entire content with the subfolders "c:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\ESET\ESETOnlineScanner" and afterwards start the new EOS v3.3.3. It should work as it was started first time on an empty PC. If not, please send again the above mentioned folder content - with newly created EOS data.
Yes, I tried that multiple times in past, yesterday included.
Tried it now, tried also downloading new EOS and it still doesnt work, same thing happens again 😕
I uploaded the folder here. I do not even have any subfolders there.

Hello Salenai,
even if you are going to use our ESET Internet Security, could you provide a little more info about the EOS issue please?
What EOS version did you use before (which version tried to update to the latest EOS v3.3.3).
Could you please compress and provide us:
1. the binary that you are running (and is failing to run)
2. the contents of the folder - without the subfolders "c:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\ESET\ESETOnlineScanner"
Afterwards you can try to delete the above mentioned folder and download the latest EOS from our website and see if that works.
Thank you.
Thanks for reply.
EOS is 3.2.6.0, have been using this for I think half a year, it kept updating to newest version. I have been using esetonlinescanner_sky.exe.
Now after it updated to newest update, it no longer works, upon launching it only tray icon shows up, but after hovering over it, it disappears. After launching EOS it doesnt even show up in task manager.
Sure, I have uploaded both here in message, feel free to have a look :).
Edit: Tried newest EOS and it too crashes upon launching, just like before.

You can activate a 90-day trial version after installing an ESET product for home users.
I downloaded and installed 30 day trial version of eset internet security, for home users.
Do I find that inside the eset menu?

I would recommend Internet Security. The differences between NOD32 and Internet Security are shown here: https://www.eset.com/us/home/for-windows/
The major enhancements for Internet Security are two-way configurable firewall, Network Attack Protection; i.e. IDS, Banking and Payment Protection, and Botnet Protection.
Thanks
I read on reddit that there is a 90 day trial running right now, is it correct? I was unable to find it anywhere on eset website. How can I get to it please? Thanks

This shouldn't happen unless the normal eset wasn't set up fully. The normal version has the signatures from the online version but a lot more features, options etc.
I'd recommend retrying. You might even find it better than Avast.
Is antivirus ok and enough or should I get internet security?
Do all 3 different packages get same signatures? They do I presume.

As far as I am aware of, the only updating that is occurring is for signatures. So assume the problem lives there.
You will just have to wait till Eset gets around to fixing it. Note this a free product so assume its not high on the priority list.
Oh, all right then, thanks for reply
I adore eset online scanner, I tried normal eset few years ago, but this one detected more stuff.
Were developers please notified of this problem?

This is a memory integrity violation. Why the installer is generating it, I have no clue.
So, how do we fix this please?:)
I still believe the problem is in todays update, maybe it is related to this error from event viewer?
It certainly must for two reasons:
When I launched eset online scanner for the first time today, it worked, that is until it updated to the newest update, then it crashed and kept crashing upon launching.
Then when I found an old installedr in Downloaded folder, it too worked, so I scanned my pc without updating it in safe mode (network doesnt work anyway), and it worked, BUT when I restarted PC to normal mode, and let it update, it too crashed and doesnt work anymore.
Then I downloaded like 5-6 different exe files from official website, and they all automatically crash.
So it seems that exe files were uploaded today to website with new update makes them crash, and old ones that were updated to new version crash as well upon launching.

Check your Error and Warning logs for anything related to Eset for today.
Also the fact that you were receiving Eset driver errors previously is indicative of a possible conflict with other security software you have installed. You might have to disable Avast or at least, its real-time scanner while running Eset Online Scanner. You can also try adding exclusions in Avast real-time scanning for Eset Online Scanner associated processes.

I think I know why was it reported. Since I bought this PC, I was never able to turn on network/internet while being in safe mode despite checking that option, and I kept scanning with eset online scanner also in safe mode without internet connection. Eset online scanner tried connecting online to check for updates but failed, therefore it reported this in event viewer.
It is probably this what is reporting.
Anyways, I tried adding esetonlinescanner.exe as an exception, and tried launching it, it turned itself off right away.
Then I tried turning off Avast, and launching it, it to did not work.
I also tried deleting temporary folder ESET in User/Appdata/Local folder and it did not help 😕
I dont think it is related to that, it seems to have something to do with new update, I used everything exactly same way as I used to before, but todays update suddenly makes Eset online scanner crash

Check your Win Event logs for the following:
thank you, what do you mean exactly, event viewer?
In the Application section?
I searched through the System section of event viewer and while I found both IDs, they were saying different thing that you mention in your post :P.
Event 1060, last one comes from date 28/3
The description for Event ID 1060 from source Application Popup cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
\??\C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\ehdrv.sys
The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

And event 7000 had date 01/04, which means today:
The Origin Web Helper Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified. But on the other hand, event 7000 reports from date 28/3 this:
The eapihdrv service failed to start due to the following error:
This driver has been blocked from loadingIt did not report it today though.

Hello, after todays update eset online scanner keeps shutting itself off right after launching it. Can you please fix it? I am using windows 10 if that helps :D. Thanks.

If you feel there's a bug in Eset Online Scanner, post in the appropriate forum section; i.e. Eset Online Scanner.
thanks
just to make sure guys, am I dealing with bug and files that I used/downloaded are safe, right? Just want to make sure I really am not dealing with any malware here and launched unsafe file.
thanks again

It could be some kind of bug , if you need to keep Avast as the real time AV for your computer , then to make sure run a deep full scan of your computer and check the results , after that run HitmanPro scan.
"this exe you have uploaded to VT has a different name than the original exe that is listed in ESET website , I won't take it , go to the original source always. "
Nightowl, are you referring to EOS_v3.exe ? On hdd it is shown as esetonlinescanner_sky.exe.
So, is it internal name of the file then and all right? Especially considering I downloaded it from official website.
It seems like this shutting off has something to do with new update, I found in my downloaded folder an old esetonlinescanner_sky.exe file, it worked, but after update it too shut itself off and now that it is updated it doesnt want to turn on either.

Guys, I downloaded eset online scanner from https://www.eset.com/int/home/online-scanner/
That you provided here. This one as well turns itself off right after I launch it.
I suppose the new update bugged it?
Edit: Point also is that I always downlad eset online scanner from official website :D, not from any other websites. I usually dont even have to because it updates by itself.
I scanned my pc few days ago and eset worked fine, but upon todays update it eset started shutting itself off right after launch.

Online scanner can be obtained here https://www.eset.com/int/home/online-scanner/
Much safer way than to get it from other unknown sources , it could have something change or tampered or malware infused.
If you are feeling paranoid , you can install ESET internet security and run a deep scan so it could scan your computer.
I don't like Avast as a personal choice for AV , I would change to ESET and for roguekiller I have never heard of this software also , I would swap it with HitmanPro.
this exe you have uploaded to VT has a different name than the original exe that is listed in ESET website , I won't take it , go to the original source always.
I have uploaded ESET Online Scanner to VT https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/6f245d40f1cbbc1786ca5884fdf5a39782bfb39f56121fe76494dfab1f6c3b1c/detection
I get the same detection that you got with that other exe , I believe it's a false positive.
Exes I uploaded are from original source, official eset website. Their name on my HDD is esetonlinescanner_sky.exe, also esetonlinescanner_enu.exe.
This is where I downloaded them:
https://www.eset.com/sk/internetova-ochrana-domacnosti/online-scanner-antivirus/
and also english version of the website, cannot find it anymore.
Not sure why they are called EOS_v3.exe on virustotal.
I am uploading them here, could you check them please? Thanks

I am little bit freaked out, I use eset online scanner (one time antivurus scanner), avast, malwarebytes, roguekiller, malwarebytes mbar (anti rootkit).
Today is weird, Eset online scanner after updating acts weird, after update it refuses to launch, roguekiller reports that there is while website where I download it says the most actual version is still 14.3.0.0.
Avast suddenly needed critical update, roguekiller says that it has new update 14.4.0.0 while website says newest udate it still 14.3.0.0, and when instalĺing new version it asks weird thing, that it needs to shut down Windows Explorer and Total Commander in order to install.
I have been using all of these programs for years and I never encountered anything like that, I scan my PC every few days, and it is also weird that all of these programs needed had a
huge update today and all of them are acting weird at the same time.
ThanksP.S. Virustotal reports that ESET online scanner that I downloaded from official website has a virus in it, false positive or not?
Oh, and question, ESET online scanner just doesnt launch since new update that came today, can anyone from eset please fix this? Thanks
-
Yes, problem was that I am also unable to report this to avast since there is no file,so they cant analyse this.
Yesterday I atleast tried reporting that website, not sure what will they say back.
And what can they really do, whitelist it,or blacklist or, or not sure.
Still, point is that avast keeps reporting it despite me not visiting that website.
Cache was I suppose cleared when I reinstalled mozilla few days ago, so this should not have appeared at all. And yet it did.
Eset Online scanner detected 3 PUPs, are they false positive?
in Malware Finding and Cleaning

So, if any of those programs installed anything, even a thing such as a toolbar, when Eset removed them, does that mean that they have literally been uninstalled/removed?
