Here you can fix the problem and I tested it with ProtonVPN:

Yes I tried that and it did work but if you do that, the ESET icons shows warning like something is wrong which I don't like. I have been asking for years for ESET to allow us to selectively install some of the components like Avast/AVG does but in vain. My biggest issues with ESET has always been its HTTP scanner.

  2. Ever since updating to the new NOD32 17.1.9.0 last night my VPN which is hide.me can't connect until I either disable NOD32 temporarily or disable the Network Traffic Scanner, once it is connected and I enable NOD32 the VPN will continue to work but the initial connection doesn't happen anymore until NOD32 is disabled or the Network Traffic Scanner is diabled. I have also added the VPN to the exclusions and also allowed it in the web access under excluded apps

I am wondering if this issue is due to Eset reverting to Google DNS 8.8.8.8 server when it has cloud connectivity issues? This might not play nicely with the VPN being used/

I've added ESET GUI and ekrn.exe to the exclusions in my VPN so they don't use the VPN when I connect to it because that's what's triggering this error is when I connect to the VPN, been 15 mins and so far I didn't get that message. Will keep monitoring this and report back.

Could you please reproduce the issue by connecting to VPN and let Wireshark log the network communication? Also enable direct advanced logging as we'll need to have both logs aligned. When done, please supply the Wireshark log and the content of the "C:\ProgramData\ESET\ESET Security\Diagnostics" folder.

so I installed Wireshark then rebooted then connected to the VPN, for about 20 mins, I didn't get that error from NOD32, then the moment I opened NOD32 and clicked on update, the issue appeared, I then went to Wireshark and stopped the packet capturing but got this message:

I didn't see it logging anything.

I will format my laptop later as I need a fresh start anyway, hopefully this won't come back again and since I'm the only one who mentioned this issue, maybe it is something with my system

Looks like all DNS servers were unreachable:

    24.11.2023 15:26 Failed connect to 10.128.172.1@53 (UDP)
    24.11.2023 15:26 Failed connect to 192.168.50.1@53 (UDP)
    24.11.2023 15:26 ERROR [RESOLV] <dns_resolver>: Question [name: avcloud.e5.sk, type: A] Resolve failed

I notice every time I connect to my VPN (I use hide.me) this is happening after a few minutes. This never happened in the past I've been using the same VPN and NOD32 for years

    just pinged: avcloud.e5.sk

  6. Running NOD32 Antivirus 17.0.15.0 , I am getting this popup notification from time to time randomly:

    limited Direct Cloud connectivity issue

    ScreenShot80.png.ee15df9ab4b34625b2b3bca22ed51398.png

I have the ESET GUI and ekrn.exe rule set to allow in my Windows Firewall settings.

I am running the latest build of Windows 11 23H2

After getting that popup, I see everything looks ok in the main UI, no notifications

Is this like a temporary glitch?

  7.  Working fine here, if you have an adblocker or any extension that may interfere with website loading such as ghostery and whatnot, make sure you exclude ESET's site from it.

Also, to tule out any possible problems with browser extensions, try opening a New Private Window/In cognito window of your browser which shouldn't have any extensions then try to login and see if the issue still persists.

Dear Eset customer care team and @Marcos, PLEASE SEND THIS THREAD/ MESSAGE FOR DEVELOPERS.

AS I HAVE MENTIONED WE HAVE SEVERAL PCS WITH WINDOWS 10 EARLIER VERSIONS OF WINDOWS 10, DOES NOT SUPPORT ACS (AZURE CODE SIGNING). WE ARE HAPPY TO GO WITH ESET 16.2.15.0 UNTIL PRODUCT LIFE GOING TO END AND STOP UPDATING MODULES/SIGNATURES.

Example: LAST YEAR WINDOWS XP STOPPED updating and couple of our machines used ESET 9 until signature and modules stopped updating its databases.

AS FAR WINDOWS 10 GOES WITH MISSING SUPPORT FOR ACS WE WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST DEVELOPERS  NOT TO AUTO UPDATE TO VERSION 17, 17+ VERSIONS WHEN UPDATING THE PRODUCT SIGNATURES/MODULES OF ESET VERSION 16. BECAUSE YOU HAVE SEEN WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO ONE OF MY MACHINES.

IT SHOULD ALSO APPLY  IF A USER   MANUALLY UPDATING (CHECK FOR UPDATES - OTHERWISE ISSUE WILL REOCCUR).

PLEASE SEND THIS TO THE DEVELOPERS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

    THANK YOU,

Please stop typing everything in capital letters, this is considered shouting and rude on the internet

it's possible, I eliminated the nod32 problem, it doesn't goblock, but the problem still exists
I will be glad if someone can help,

    my os:  Windows  8
    my tor v browser 13,0.1

I use TOR and it works perfectly fine with NOD32 active, no need for any exclusions even.

Make sure you download it from a legit source like: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/tor_browser_bundle_64.html

    Please carry on as follows:

    1. Enable advanced logging under Help and support -> Technical support
    2. Reboot the machine and reproduce the issue (should not take long, otherwise the logs will be huge)
    3. Stop logging
    4. Collect logs with ESET Log Collector and upload the generated archive here (only the ESET staff can access attachments). If the archive is too big to upload here, upload it to a file sharing service and drop me a private message with a download link.

Thank you for the instructions, I rebooted the machine but this time the error didn't happen.

While creating many exclusions would not affect performance, each exclusion creates a potential security hole so exclusions should be used only as a last resort if a particular issue cannot be resolved otherwise.

what is the difference between Detection Exclusions and Performance Exclusions?

  12. I was testing Avast Antivirus Free the other day and as I was adding folders that had a lot of . EXE files (my software folder which includes installers and benchmarking tools), Avast popped a message saying that adding too many exclusions would hurt performance.

This has me thinking, is that something particular to Avast or is it a general rule of thumb that one should only add exclusions to a few items that they do not want the antivirus to touch for any reason but not over do it?

Also, what is the difference between Detection Exclusions and Performance Exclusions?

  13. In the past, if one had a license for ESET Internet Security ESET Smart Security, he could still install NOD32 and activate it using that same license as the higher edition licenses can still activate a lower edition. Is this still the case or if you enter the EIS or ESS key the program would automatically upgrade the components to the higher suite?

Microsoft Defender is free, integrated in Windows and has a detection rate superior to ESET

Yes and it's the heaviest antivirus in the world getting the last place in AV-Comparatives tests for many years consecutively. If you don't care about performance, then feel free to use it.

  15. Just like you, I've been using ESET NOD32 Antivirus for more than 15 years. Not once had I had a virus so I take these synthetic tests with a grain of salt. No regular user out there is gonna sit there and download 100s of viruses to test his AV. In the real world, I have been always protected. What matters to me other than protection is a security solution that as no bloatware (ie. toolbars, addons, system optimizers, registry cleaners, etc.), has very low false positives, and is light on the system which ESET gives you exactly that. It is very rare to find such a combo in other products other than ESET.

I'm trying to set up uBlock Origin. Just to don't know what to tick under filters?  I have two screen shots

Remember, the more filters you use, the slower web browsing will be and you may experience broken webpages. I personally uncheck all and just leave the Easy List filter and Fanboy Annoyances.
