  1. I'm not so sure about that. The problem I have been experiencing went away after disabling ESS AV protection. Maybe it was just coincidence. I should know soon. I'm going to roll my computer back to a time before installing ESS 8 tomorrow.
  2. I'm using Eset Smart Security 8 with Windows 7X64 Ultimate. I have been having a problem with Firefox Web Browser freezing for about a week now. If I have several tabs opens then the browser will freeze when trying to navigate between tabs. The browser usually begins to respond again after about 5 seconds, but sometimes it takes a little longer. Also, it takes forever for the content of some web pages to load. Facebook is the worse. When I open the Web developer component from within Firefox to see what is having trouble loading it is usually an image file, but I do not remember which type of image it is. I suspected it was Eset Smart Security 8 that was causing the problem so I waited until Firefox was freezing badly to disable ESS's AV Protection by right clicking on the tray icon and, choosing temporarily disable protection. FF was freezing anytime I tried to navigate between tabs, and my browser was loading web pages extremely slow. After I disabled ESS AV protection the problem went away. I used Firefox for about 20 minutes with the AV disabled, and I did not have any of the problems I was experiencing. Firefox no longer was freezing, and the content of web pages was loading quit fast. Also all the web pages I surfed during that time finished loading. I installed Pre released updates to see if that would fix the problem, but it did not have any affect from what I can tell. Something to note about the installation of the pre release update was that I got an error after the update installed. It said something about an undocumented error. I got the same error during the beta test period as well so I was not concerned about the error since Eset never replied back to me when I reported it on the forum. I figured it must not be a big deal. What do you need from me in order to pinpoint the problem? I will have to go back to using Eset Smart Security 7, or NOD 32 7 with Online Armor if I can not get this problem resolved. One thing to note is that web pages loading very slowly, and not fully loading the content has been a problem for weeks now. The problem with Firefox freezing, and becoming unresponsive only began to occur in the last few days.
  3. Wow! This must be the shortest beta period for Eset ever, or maybe I just joined the party a little late.
  4. Do I download version 8 GA build from here? I had to do a google search to find this. hxxp://www.eset.com/int/download/beta-versions/
  5. Hey Cutting, I assume it's the large update that contains updates for the engine and modules that was released a while ago. Does the update come down if you click manually on the update button several times in a row? If that doesn't help, try clearing your update cache, and then try to update manually once again a couple times. FYI this is a quote from a KB article that was published when the update was released, the KB article no longer exists so I copied the text from one of my own posts. Thank You for the info. It seems to have updated on it's own now. I wonder if Eset still wants the data I collected.
  6. What is the best email address to send bug reports to for beta products? I keep getting an error code when ESS 8 beta attempts to download the latest Virus signature database on my laptop. The update keeps failing. It's a very large update to be only a signature update, and I don't have pre-released updates enabled on this Laptop. I think it was around 40 mbs. It reports to be an undocumented serious error (0X1106). I have a sysinspector log, and screen shot to send Eset. I'm using Windows 7X64 with all the latest patches.
  7. Btw.. every time I click on post to make my post it takes about 10 seconds before it makes the post. I don't remember that happening with V7, but maybe the forum is just running a little slow right now. Edit: it just took over 20 seconds to make this post after clicking on the post button. That's pretty slow!
  8. I used the advanced mode, and the simple mode at the time the problem occurred. Neither one worked. I don't know if the problem occurs with V7. I don't have time to roll my machine back, or uninstall V8 at the present time.
  9. Just a little heads up for anyone using Ghostery plugin for Firefox. I was not able to attach my screen shot with it enabled. Ghostery only reported blocking Google Analytics each time I clicked on the attachment option, but it never would give me the option to attach the screen shot. I then paused Ghostery blocking, and then I was able to attach the screen shot with no problem. It's strange that Ghostery only reported blocking Google Analytics when trying to attach my screen shot. I don't see how that would prevent one from attaching a screenshot to their post.
  10. Eset Smart Security performs 2 scans at the same time. I clicked on custom scan, and selected to scan everything under C drive including operating memory, and boot sector. After I already ticked to scan everything for C drive I saw that the scan profile said Smart Scan so I did not perform the scan. I wanted to configure the profile for an In-depth scan, and not a Smart Scan. I then clicked on the drop down menu under profiles to see what other scan profiles were available. I then selected the In-depth scan, and ticked to scan everything under C drive again for the In-depth scan profile. I then went back to untick everything that I had ticked for the Smart Scan, but it had already been unticked for me by ESS. There was nothing ticked for the Smart Scan profile. So I went back, and performed the In-depth Scan. After it had been scanning for about a minute I noticed that ESS was conducting 2 scans at the same time. I guess ESS was performing the Smart Scan, and the Indepth scan at the same time even though everything had been unticked for the Smart Scan. ESS should have only been performing the In-depth Scan. I'm using Windows 7X64 Ultimate.
  11. It's been hard for me to keep up to date with everything recently due my migraines. The computer screen has been triggering them everytime lately, I have been really sensitive to light. I tried logging in a few days ago just to touch base, but I kept getting an error message each time I tried to login so it just wasn't meant to be.
  12. FWIW, It now seems that the DNS leak is Not caused by the ESS V8 Beta: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/hitmanpro-alert-support-and-discussion-thread.324841/page-90#post-2406835 Yes, thank you! Hitman Pro Alert does cause my DNS to leak. I just haven't had a chance to check to make sure ESS beta 8 does not do the same. I would say it was only HMPA though. I hope the surfright, and Boleh developers can work out the conflict they are having with their products. I think it's best to report bugs by support email, and the forum thread since Eset is not responding to many of the post here. I did not even know if they were looking into the problem.
  13. Hey cutting_edgetech Like MBAE:https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/malwarebytes-anti-exploit.354641/page-40#post-2405280..... .....The ESET Exploit Blocker is/was patent-pending too, and MBAE and competing apps don't give out too much details about how their product actually work as the bad guys can take benefit from it as well, so i'm not sure how much details ESET is prepared to share. We know that it is an extension of the HIPS...but how it works exactly in detail I don't think its safe to share that, depending on what type of details we're talking about of course. I guess I should have stated my question more clearly. I understand they can't give out too detailed of description. I was looking for something more along the lines of a type of method being used. I was wondering if they use advanced memory protection methods used by applications like EMET, behavior blocking, HIPS, a combination, or some other method. I'm trying to think of a better layout for the firewall now. I don't like the UI for the rules, and zones section of the firewall. It is not user friendly for the average user. I think they need to break things down more into tabs. I'm trying to think of a more detailed designed with things broken down into tabs more to propose as a possible option.
  14. If I set the filtering to not specified then it says filtering is off. It that expected behavior? I want ESS to log traffic continuously without specifying a time period.
  15. I think I figured out what settings I need to use for my logging needs. The logging options just seem to be a little confusing to me. I'm trying to think of better language to use in the options.
  16. My DNS always leaks with Eset Smart Security 8 beta when using Boleh VPN. It never did leak when using Online Armor with Boleh VPN. Boleh VPN client uses OpenVPN protocols. What do you need to trouble shoot this problem? I already tried using learning mode so ESS would properly configure the Firewall for Boleh VPN Client. That did not work. My DNS still leaked after connecting to a Boleh route. I also tried interactive mode, and that failed to resolve the issue as well. The firewall log is blank in the UI. Where are the logs you will need? Its really late here so I will check back in the morning to see what is needed to resolve this issue.
  17. I'm going to have to look into Eset's exploit blocker more. The link above leads me to believe that Eset's exploit blocker is a behavior blocker with HIPS to assist when needed. Here is a one sentence description they have of it, :it monitors the behavior of processes and looks out for suspicious activities that are typical for exploits". I want to make recommendations for the exploit blocking feature used by Eset, but I would need more detailed information about how it works. Does it also use similar methods to that of EMET, Hitman Pro Alert 3, or Malwarebytes AE?
  18. Yes, I was referring the exploit blocker. I have it disabled in NOD 32 since it is part of the HIPS. I was afraid it would interfere with Online Armor HIPS. Exploit blocker does not show in the settings anymore after disabling it so I couldn't remember what it was called. Thank You.
  19. I did not know Eset Smart Security's exploit shield was protecting other vulnerable applications since I use Online Armor, and NOD 32 except for this beta build of Eset Smart Security 8. I'm thinking about switching to Eset Smart Security though on all my machines due to Emsisoft's complete lack of development of Online Armor. The only products they care about anymore are EAM, and EIS. They don't even respond to bug reports for OA anymore, and have not since about the beginning of the year. I was informed by Emsisoft that the development tools that were used to code OA with were outdated so it would be a major job to update OA since the code would have to be migrated to another compiler, and IDE. Emsisoft was responding to my request to enable ASLR, and DEP for OA when providing me with this information. It may be time to retire Online Armor into my Hall of Fame retirement home lol If Eset spends more time improving their firewall, and further development of it's exploit mitigation shield then I will definitely switch. My license for NOD 32 expires 10/22/14 so I will probably switch to Eset Smart Security then.
  20. Is ESS exploit shield only going to monitor java for exploits? You should also monitor Adobe reader, and Adobe flash by default. Maybe you could even give an option for the user to add additional applications to be monitored for exploits.
  21. I have ESS (Eset Smart Security) firewall in interactive mode, and each time I allow an application internet request UAC prompts me asking if I want to allow that action. What is ESS doing when allow an application internet request that needs permission from UAC? I had a minor issue with the firewall prompt. When I expanded the firewall prompt for more detail the bottom edge of the prompt was cut off. I had to drag the prompt to a higher position on the screen in order to access the hide advanced options button. I only had to do this once since the prompt appeared in the position I dragged it to from then on. I would suggest that Eset position the Firewall prompt just a little higher on the screen so all users can see the full prompt when it is expanded for more detail. I think I only had to drag the prompt about 2-3 inches higher. I'm using a Sony Vaio Laptop with a 15.5" LCD monitor resolution 1366 X768. Windows 7X64.
  22. I'm joining the party a little late, but I guess it's best to be a little late than never. I have only read a few post, but I saw some discusion about the GUI. I'm glad Eset does not feel they have to change the GUI with each new product release. It's just a silly waste of time unless it's to facilitate the addition of a new feature. I don't think there is anything wrong with V7 GUI so I think it's best Eset uses their time to actually improve how their products perform instead of being worried about eye candy. Also making changes to the GUI risk introducing unnecssary new bugs. Eset please use your time to improve what really counts like detection, blocking capability, removal capability, imrproved exploit mitigation, and keep it light on system resources like you always have. One of the reasons I use Eset is because they don't use the gimmic of changing their GUI with each new product release. If its not broke then there's no need to fix it. I know this is only the opinion of 1 user, but I just wanted Eset to know polices like not changing the GUI for the sake of eye candy is what has kept me using Eset since 2003. Well, i'm going to give this beta a try now. I hope version 8 works as well for me as version 7 has. Keep up the good work! cutting_edgetech
