  1. I will try enabling the logging in version 8 as you have suggested, and see if I can capure the blocked packets. I want be able to do this though until I find another flash card with an error. Do you think the fact the page is encrypted could have anything to do with it? I have to log into an encrypted account to use the flash cards. I'm using ESS version 8.

    Thank You for your help!

  2. Could you confirm or deny that temporarily disabling real-time protection before you start the download helps? Was a Firefox temporary file (*.part) detected prior to detection by web access protection?

Yes, the download is successful if I disabled real-time protection. The download is also successful if I disable detection of PUA's. The problem is if I choose to allow the PUA when prompted the download fails anyways. Stackz above tried to download the same file using the same link with PUA enabled, and his download failed also despite him choosing to allow it when prompted. A .part file was detected in the first prompt. Below are the two prompts I receive. I allowed them both, but the download always fails. I'm using the latest version of Firefox 32bit.

  3.

I tried downloading speccy from the pirfiform site using this url hxxp://www.piriform.com/speccy/download/standard, and it fails to download. Eset Smart Security warns me it contains potentially unsafe application which in this case is Google Toolbar. I chose to allow the download each of the 2 times it warned me, and the download failed anyway. I tried 3 times, and each time it failed. I then disabled Eset Smart Security protection from the taskbar icon, and the download completed immediately. I'm using Eset Smart Security 8.0.319.0. I'm not interested in upgrading to version 9 yet since a few bugs in it affect me. I just thought I would report it since it also slows down downloads. I'm on Windows 7X64 Ultimate with all the latest security patches.

Did you try to disable PUA detection and then attempt to download again? Then enable PUA detection after the download completes. Sometimes this doesn't work however if Eset's web filter is blocking the IP address.

Another way to get around this is to download a zip file if they offer one. Eset won't detect the PUA until the file is unzipped and the installer executed.

Yes, I tried disabling detection of PUA, and that worked. I was using this thread to report a bug with the detection of PUA's. If you the user choses to allow the download by prompt then the download still fails. I also tried disbling real-time protection, and that worked also.

  4. I always use Interactive Mode, and normaly I create a rule for the application using the recommended settings by Eset. That's what I did with Firefox. I don't want to use Version 9 yet because I use Excel a lot, and there is a bug with Excel. I also experienced a memory leak with version 9. I'm pretty sure it was memory leak anyways. I had only been using Eset Smart Security 9 for about 2 hours, and the memory usage was around 300 mbs. I don't feel safe using version 9 yet in general. There has been a lot of bugs reported for it that are being fixed. I will wait for a big release fixing a lot of bugs, and try it again. I could configure version 8 to log all blocked packets the next time I find a card with an error that needs submitted, and see what shows up in the log. I think I can do that anyways. It's been so long since I have done it that I don't remember exactly where that option is.

    Thank you for your reply!

  5. I use a several paid flashcard service to study foreign languages. I find errors in translations, and there is an option to submit error reports. If Eset Firewall is enabled then the error submission form fails. It either times out (fails), or takes almost 2 minutes before it says it's complete. In both cases the submssion fails even if it says it was successful due to the extremely long time it took to complete. If I disable Eset Firewall then all error submission reports will go through almost instantly. It is definitely Eset Firewall causing this. The website uses encryption. I dont' know if that has anything to do with it.  What all information do I need to collect for Eset Developers to look into this, and hopefully fix it? Will it help if i'm able to capture the encrypted traffic using fiddler, and save it's log file? Are their any settings I should use with Eset Smart Security to capture the traffic? I already know they will want a SysInspector Log. I use this site all the time so i'm currently having to use Windows firewall which I definitely don't want to do!

The link for the flashcard service that Eset is causing the problems for is below. If needed they would probably give Eset a temporary account to trouble shoot with. They just launch online so their service is pretty basic right now, but they will be adding a lot of features soon. hxxp://voclab.com/en/learn-spanish Here is a video of the problem. You will have to look over my voice lol I have a cold, and have not had any sleep. In this video it says the submission was successfull after running for almost 2 minutes. It was not successful despite it saying it was. The long wait caused it to fail. Most submissions time out with Eset Firewall enabled. All error submission reports submit almost instantly with Eset Firewall disabled. All error submission reports have submitted successfully with Eset Firewall disabled.  Well, here is the video of me sending an error submission report with Eset Firewall enabled. It took almost 2 minutes, and it failed despite it saying it was successful. https://www.dropbox.com/s/bbjmrxtximbcjc8/Vocab%20Lab.mp4?dl=0

  7. Eset Smart Security 9 beta actually injects into Firefox.exe. I never could get Eset Smart Security 8 to inject into anything. I tried everything, but it never would inject into anything. It looks like this problem was fixed in Eset Smart Security 9. I hope it will inject into my other applications as well as I make rules for them.

  8. There is very annoying text in the firewall editor that does not allow the user to see the application names. All I see in every row is, "Allow Communication for, or Deny Communication for". I can only see the first few letters of the application name which the rule is for. This text is not needed, and only obstructs the view of the application names. The Action column already tells the user if the communication is Allowed, or Denied for each application. Take a look at the screeshot I attached with this post.  Do you see what I mean? The text covers all the application names. Look at the arrow pointing to the Action field which already shows the user if the communication is Allowed, or Denied. I don't want to have to delete this useless text every time I Allow, or Deny communication for an application. I think it has been over 3 months since I reported this by the beta program feedback, and I was informed my suggestion would be taken under advisement. I would like to know if Eset has any intentions of removing this text which hurts usability? Also I reported that the firewall editor window cannot be be resized. If I change the dimensions of the editor window it returns to it's default as soon as I close the Window. I was informed this was going to be fixed, but it never was. Lets work together on this, and try to insure the best product possible will be released.

  9. I just updated Firefox to 40.0.2, and Eset keeps asking if I want to allow outbound access for Firefox.exe from the following path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\updated\firefox.exe   That path does not exist. Firefox.exe is not located at that path. There is not even a folder called "updated" in the Firefox installation folder. If I chose to deny the outbound access then Firefox has no internet. It seems like a bug in Eset Smart Security Firewall. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm using Windows 7X64 Ultimate, and Eset Smart Security 8.0.312.0.

  10. Eset Smart Security 8 Firewall ask me if I want to allow Outbound Traffic for .NET Runtime Optimization Service no matter how many times I click allow, and remember action. As soon as I click allow, and remember action it ask me again. It's stuck in a never ending loop. It shows allow for outbound traffic in configure rules, and zones. I'm using Windows 7X64 Ultimate, and Eset Smart Security 8.0.312.0.

when we can expect final relase of ess 9?

    October 2015

Wow, must be the first time ever I see an ESET rep mention a release date/month (approximate?) in public :D

Times they are a-changin'. Look at Microsoft, all open and humble. :)

Yeah sure, but I am not saying that its only positive. If ESET needs to move the release date forward....there is always a few people that might react like "but you said it was going to be released now buuuuu"   By keeping the release info secret until a few days before they plan to release it they prevent these people from feeling let down and disappointed and post their anger on social media or whatever.

But personally I don't complain, I know how this works, even if they say October right now, I know that no date is set in stone :)

I don't know about open and humble. I think they seem to think that they do everything right all the time, and if they get some negative feedback, they only come up with a bad excuse. It will be very interesting to see how their automatic WU system works out with Win10 if MS plan to keep the current "high" quality on their updates.

I would use the wording, "the projected release date is"....... They can't say you said....... then.  There will always be people that cry over spiled milk. The only users that should really be in a rush to upgrade are those that are experiencing problems with the current version. If the current version is not working for them then I can understand the frustration.

  12. I use Auslogics Disk Defrag utility, and it delivers add content to it's users. In the past I always blocked the add content using the Firewall by blocking all outbound, and inbound access for Diskdefrag. I started getting the add content again after the last Eset Smart Security upgrade. The only internet access the Firewall has prompted me for belonging to Disk defrag was for outbound request, and I created a permament block rule for outbound access. I left inbound request set to ask the user since I had not been prompted for inbound access yet. Eset Firewall has not prompted me for any inbound request, but now I get add content from disk defrag. This did not happen with the last version of ESS. Either Eset Firewall is somehow being bypassed by Auslogics Disk Defrag to deliver the add content, or the adds are being stored locally now on my disk. The only way this could have happened is if Auslogics stored the adds locally during the installation of Disk Defrag. The adds only occur about every 3-4 days. I think it is important though to see if Eset Firewall is being bypassed. I can't install Wireshark on this machine right now because one of my drivers for my network card will not allow me to at the moment. I don't know how else to see if Eset Firewall is being bypassed. Does anyone else use Auslogics Disk defrag? Do you also get add content now even after blocking all Disk Defrag inbound, and outbound request? Do you know if adds are being stored locally now, and delivered every X amount of days?

  13. I don't like the Home screen for Eset Smart Security, or NOD 32. The big Maximum Protection Banner, and the Giant Robot take up too much space. The space could be used to report the status of each shield independently, or give centralized access to the settings that are most often accessed by the user. I was hoping Eset would give easier/quicker access to some of the settings in the UI this time around.

Edit 6/24 @ 12:23: I like the Robot, just make it smaller. There's no need for it to take up that much valiable space that could be used for something useful.
