  1. Hello, The goal of this message thread is to provide ESET with feedback on changes and new features you would like to see in future versions of ESET NOD32 Antivirus. Please use the following format when providing feedback: Description: A very specific one line description of your feedback. Detail: A more detailed explanation of your feedback. Please feel free to make this any length, but be sure to use terms everyone can understand. If your suggestion is an extension or update to an existing discussion, please include a link to it in your message. Here is an example: Description: Raspberry Pi support Detail: The Raspberry Pi is a small ARM-based single-board computer popular with hobbyists. I think ESET should make a version of ESET NOD32 Antiivirus for it. You are welcome to discuss the merits of each and every suggestion, but keep your comments on topic, concise and thoughtful. There are other parts of the forum to discuss issues. NOTE: When making your requests do not make general statements such as "better detection, HIPS, firewall, cleaning, and so forth." ESET's threat researchers constantly examine new threats and release updates to the virus signature database and to the modules in order to improve these functions. If you have a specific feature or functionality you would like to see added (or improved) please post it here, but general requests to "make things better" are not helpful because they do not give ESET detailed enough information. Thank you for your understanding. [Added 2013-06-10] Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  2. Again, your missing the point. An app being signed does not guaranty that it is not malware. Numerous signed malware instances have been documented.

  3. I had not. Thank you. (This product is terribly tricky. Where can I read how to master all this? The manual is definitely too short)

  4. Have you enabled pre-release updates in the config (/etc/opt/eset/esets/esets.cfg)? av_prerelease_updates = yes Otherwise you will not receive the fixed module.

  5. thanks, updated to 1099 and daemon is running now... lets see if it keep running

  6. That's weird , I prefer to wait for an ESET Staff to reply here for your problem, as he/she would understand more than me in this case.

  7. The latest update was a type of update that unless one have or are still experiencing any of the fixed issues/problems then there is no need to update. I still have not updated myself yet for that reason. HTH.

  8. If it is too much trouble for ESET to use, why have it? Surely, if they are going to go to the trouble to actually produce an updated version, it just makes sense to get it on as many PCs as possible. If the issues are not that critical, why update? I just cannot understand the (lack of) logic.

  10. Same here. I have 6 PCs to keep up to date and I gave up waiting for the program to update itself. I wonder if the feature even works? DrT

  11. Product updating: My product version kept telling me it was 'up to date', yet a new product was released. Thanks to a reply from Marcos I was soon put right and had the new product installed in no time. Is the user notified in the GUI? Seemed a little odd to me there was a newer version out and my GUI didn't tell me, it could be the update was of no significance. Dave

  12. I have to agree with carbonyl, that having an additional color, and or warning persona strictly for gaming mode alone, would be a little more comforting on the eyes, then using the same persona or behavior as if you have an immediate problem that needs correcting like 'out of date os files' or PUA has been detected. Thanks Team

  13. Description: Please change the tray icon and GUI notification for Gamer Mode. Detail: Currently when NOD enters gamer mode due to a fullscreened application, the tray icon and GUI show a somewhat unsettling ! icon that is indicative of a more substantial problem, and the GUI says that "NOD requires your attention". This is unsettling, as gamer mode is operating as designed, there is no problem, and NOD does not require attention. With the prevalence of multi-monitor setups becoming more and more common, it's very likely that users will fullscreen an application, video, or game on a secondary display - and see the icon or GUI for NOD on their primary display and become concerned. This is particularly disconcerting when first discovering it. I just now saw the ! icon while a video was full screened on another monitor, and clicked over to the ! on my primary screen to see what was wrong and needed my attention. Doing so caused the video to exit fullscreen, and caused NOD to exit gamer mode before I could realize what was happening. And so I spent a good 10 minutes going back and forth thinking something was more seriously wrong on my system than it was. Anyhow, just a suggestion! Thanks.

  15. Disabling phishing protection should give user warning that he/she doesn't have full protection. The taskbar icon should change color and right clicking taskbar icon should not give message with green checkmark "Maximum protection". The same scenario for disabling anti-stealth technology.

  18. There appears to be a problem with "smart optimisation" (or my understanding of how "smart optimisation" works) in conjunction with "real-time protection" and "unwanted" detection I have seen various instances (including today) in which I can view/access a file (which has been previously reported by ESET, in one form or another, as an "unwanted" application) without a report being generated... The only time a report is created is when I try to copy the file to a new location - and the new location is reported, but nor the original file... Based on my observations it seems that an update of the virus signature database doesn't reset the "smart optimisation" data ESET records... If "smart optimisation" is based on some MD5/SHA-???-style "checksum" shouldn't this "checksum" be cleared when the virus signature database is updated?

  20. There's an option "Log all blocked operations" in the advanced HIPS setup. However, we don't recommend enabling it unless you need to troubleshoot an issue caused by HIPS, otherwise large logs could be generated which would have adverse effect on the overall system performance.
    1 point
  21. Each HIPS rule has an option "Notify user". When enabled, a notification will pop up whenever a rule is applied.

  22. Is there a possibility to create some sort of alert for the HIPS when policy based mode blocks something? It's very annoying to have to go check the log to see if anything has been blocked.

  24. Hello, it was a bug, it was supposed to be available only for those, who would click on Check for new version and those who were doing fresh installation. It wasn't intended to be pushed to all customers via regular update. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

  25. Since previous releases, there's been two annoying features in nod32 and smart security: 1) There is no way to stop startup scan once it's started. Of course you can schedule it or remove from the schedule list so that it won't run ever. But the startup scan is an essential scan that should be done at least once or twice a day. Its sometimes anoying that you can't cancel/stop this scan when you are doing some important work and this scan is eating a lot of memory / your work is inurrupted for some reason. 2) When you insert a USB storage device, the scan starts automatically. For some reason, you don't want that drive to be scanned or it is taking too long to complete the scan you wan't to abort it so that you can use that usb device elsewhere to continue some important work or some one is waiting for that usb device so that he can take it. You try to abort the scan, the scan refuses to pause / stop unless it finishes scanning that one particular file. I am not comparing the above with 'other' security softwares as according to me these 'other' software have no comparison with the best Eset technology. I have been using Nod32 since the year 2000 and I can understand how much the above problems have annoyed me in the past.

  28. Hello, Not every requested feature can be added at once. ESET's project managers have to carefully look at the technical and market requirements for each request. Sometimes, the amount of work required to implement a requested feature may mean that it needs to be put off for a few version releases until enough engineering time can be budgeted to implement, test and maintain the feature. And sometimes, a feature might be requested that is just out of scope, offers little real-world benefit to customers or may even be against ESET's business practices. In any case, what I would suggest is to provide as detailed a description as possible of the feature you are requesting, in order for ESET's project managers to make better sense of it, and a little patience, as not everything can be done at once. 29. Nice suggestion for sandbox from my friend Swex !

  30. Hi Ali Welcome to the forums ! In my travels on the internet, if i think it might be malicious, i stay away from it. I would have no need for a sandbox. I am not sure if it will be added or not. ESET's decision.

  32. Does "clean" mean delete or quarantine?
    1 point
  33. From the right-click context menu, you can run a scan with or without cleaning. To clean threats, simply select the option "Clean with ESET NOD32 Antivirus" (or "Clean files" in v7).

  34. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but whenever I do a right click scan I would like to see options in that small scan window to remove, delete, exclude etc it's kind of annoying not having those options atleast to me.

  35. I would like to suggest the following relatively minor improvements to NOD32: 01) Allow the HIPS rules window to remember the last size and position. It is tedious to have to resize this window every time. 02) Add a setting to make the alerts popups open the advanced options drop-down as default. 03) Better wildcard support for the HIPS module. For example, allow items such as "C:\Windows\*.log". 04) Allow wildcards for Source Applications in HIPS rules. As the final rule of 3 out of 4 policies is to allow the action (including the default policy), this would NOT be a dangerous modification. There are instances where this would be quite useful. Some examples: a.) on a system running the Surun application every application needs to be able to launch surun.exe b.) many applications may need to write to "C:\Windows\Rescache\rc000*\rescache.hit" c.) many applications may need to write to "C:\Windows\CSC\v2.0.6\namespace\localhost" It would make rulesets much smaller to integrate all these actions into a single rule for Source Applications "C:\Program Files\*" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\*", instead of so many separate rules. If you've made it this far into my post, thanks for taking the time to read. Any consideration of these changes by the ESET developers would be greatly appreciated.

  36. Description: Logitech G15 LCD Support - hxxp://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/keyboards/articles/554 Detail: Gaming keeps getting better and better, most AV software companies have begun to add Gamer-mode. What would really set eset software apart and again ahead of the industry above all others; would be to add in a little logitech support. I have noticed several questions asked about nod32 that would not have been asked had we been able to monitor eset out of games and full screen mode apps, where desktop is missing. This could even work for corporate if your using mstsc / rdp or something similar. Although i dont know of many businesses running a $100+ keyboard lol. What could be displayed ? *Gamer mode on/off status *Updating *Real time objects being scanned *Pop-ups and alerts while surpressed in gamer mode, can now be filtered to the lcd screen *Eset / egui+ekrn cpu usage % *Eset / egui+ekrn memory utilization % * Heck add in cpu and memory usage as a whole; make coretemp and such programs obsolete. LOLOL Most users like myself that have a gaming computer really can handle eset running at full power and without gamer mode. However the added cpu idle and scheduled full scans being disabled etc are still very nice along with the other added features of gaming mode. I would really like to see this, but it may be wishful thinking

  37. Thank you for the post Battlin'~D@~Big~*C* I really appreciate it. I am new to NOD32 and realize now that I should print out the manual and learn more about this wonderful program. I think that I have followed your steps accurately, so let's see what happens. I have three computers on this license so, two more to go. Many thanks.,

  39. I agree with SweX. Even though I am using ESET NOD32 4 I have the orange icon, but a green icon with an exclamation mark isn't really that much spottable IMO. I haven't seen it since I am using NOD32 4 (which is an older version) it still has the orange icon.
    1 point
  40. Orange was just fine as it was before IMO. I mean if something more "severe" is happening then it will turn Red as it still does of course, but Orange for "hey I need your attention" is OK I think. But maybe that's just me, and each to their own I guess.

  41. Hello, The reason the behavior was changed because of complaints that the yellow "warning color" was too severe an action to perform on messages which were supposed to be more informational in nature. I'm not really sure what can be done here, though, as different customers have different preferences, and trying to allow the icon to be customized would result in all sorts of problems, ranging from support issues to attacks by malware (in order to hide it/change it to normal). Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

  42. A small matter - in earlier versions when NOD32 found a problem the icon in the notification area turned orange and was very easy to spot. Now all we get is a green circle with an exclamation mark that's nowhere near as obvious. Can we go back to the orange eye please?

  43. Aryeh, i would really like the option of right click check for updates from systray icon also. Despite the check on login, and every 60min that it does. It may be redundant, but it is on par with other software and its becoming a update software etiquette type user action. I perform it on 4 other software, then if i want to double check on eset i have to load entire gui. From a programming perspective this is a very easy addition. Pleeeaaaseee ask dev team. Thx lol

  44. Some people may think that releasing an VSD update every 7'th hour (or so) is not a good approach, as some vendors release one every hour, while ESET releases an VSD "as needed" wich I am perfectly fine with. But VSD updates is not the only updates that we get! So I want to add a quote by Marcos from the old forum at Wilders, and this IMO should be displayed as a feature (or at least mention it in the product description) on the product/s page on Eset.com as it is quite interesting fact to know about the product. Without giving away any critical details of course as Marcos says below... P.S I hope it's OK to share this here, I figure if it weren't OK to talk about it then Marcos wouldn't have told us about this feature in the first place

  49. The interface needs rationalising. It is not always the case that all the options for a given feature are in the same place. IIRC, configuring the Idle scan needs two separate locations. When I was previously with ESET, I was concerned that thye main program was rarely updated. To me, as a customer, 'no change' means nothing good. No software is perfect as is not interface.
